Is there a means to convert a 60 visa exempt to a 12 month visa based on marriage whilst in Thailand?
My wife and her cousin went to the immigration office - more to obtain what is needed in terms of paperwork, and the lady was extremely helpful and kind and was going to do it, checked my passport. But wasnt concerned that i didn’t have a Type O visa but the fact I only had 7 days remaining before flying back to UK. She said I needed at least 30 days remaining.
I thought mmm, i wasn’t expecting that.
Im still planning on obtaining the Type O this October/November but wondered had anyone else been successful in trying.
TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to convert a 60-day visa exempt into a Non-O visa based on marriage while in Thailand, but there are specific requirements. You should have at least 15 to 30 days remaining on your current entry stamp to apply for the conversion. Many expats recommend applying for the Non-O visa in their home country, particularly if they lack a Thai bank account, as it can be challenging to open one without a long-term visa.
