Dears,

I need your expertise and experience as I have to change my multiple entry Tourist Visa METV (last entry to TH 09.04.19, next leaving until 07.06.19, in general valid until 20.08.2019) into a non-immigrant-visa category „ED“ because I am going to do an internship in a company here in Thailand starting on 01.06.19.

The documents I already have:

- Application for Change of Visa (TM.86)

- Copy of passport

- Copy of departure card

- Invitation letter/ visa request of the internship company

- Signed internship contract

- Chamber registration of company

- Copy of license to perform duty as manager (from company's director who signed the documents)

- Student confirmation from my university in Germany

- Certificate of studies with grades (from my University in Germany)

- Bank account information

Do I need further documents?

Is it possible to convert in at the immigration in Thailand?

(On the web and on the phone they stated yes, but for any reason one immigration officer advise not possible without giving a specific explanation. Should I just try again or what is the easiest way? I would prefer doing the conversion in Thailand.)

If nof possible, what is the best place to go outside Thailand? Do I have to cancel my tourist visa in advance and how?

Thank you so much for your help & advice

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on converting a multiple entry Tourist Visa (METV) to a Non-Immigrant ED Visa for an internship in Thailand. They have prepared various documents but are uncertain if further documentation is required and if the conversion can be done at the immigration office in Thailand. Although initial information indicated that the conversion is possible in-country, conflicting advice was received from an immigration officer. The user is also inquiring about procedures for canceling their tourist visa if they need to travel to an embassy outside Thailand.

Hi Tod, thanks for info. As mentioned, on the phone and web they say yes. Office said no today. Maybe someone has experienced it can explain a little more?

Regarding the termination, do you know if required before going to embassy outside TH? I cannot reach the embassy by phone and email outstanding since last week

I totally trust your recommendation, but just Wanne understand little bit more regarding KL because It seems to be structured: with checklist (what documents you need), getting an appointment online and should be done the next Day etc.

However I would also go to Yangon as per your recommendation. They ask for a police check on their website. Is it only for studying or for ED in general? If so, is Thai police check enough or need another one from home country? Germany is super bureaucratic. Need legally approved signature here, then send letter, then wait around 4 weeks, then they send back etc...

thanks again!

Good to hear, any other recommendation beside Lao? Thanks Tod

Why on gods green earth would you use the KL consulate?

They are NOT user friendly for ED visas in the least.

I'd say go to Lao and get it. Even Penang and Kota Bharu in Malaysia are not all the accommodating for ED visa people

Ok, so I get the non im ed as well in my passport and just need to ensure they stamp this one and not the other tourist one, right? Thanks
Tod *********
you leave the country stamping out on what ever stamp you're on and you apply for a new visa at a thai consulate making sure when you stamp IN to the country they see that you're entering on that visa

Termination of Tourist visa before applying non im ed

regarding what termination?

The company you are interning for should know IF you can or can't do the in country conversion at the immigration office.

Either have them call and ask that office IF you can do it, OR you take the documentation you have with you to the immigration office and ask yourself.
