Hi, not Bangkok specific but helpful to any Thai expat. I received my visa in Chonburi in November 2022 using a visa agent. She said I must either mail her my passport or am required to do my 90 day in person at Chonburi. Reason stated: You are not allowed to change Immigration office to another location.

I live in Chiang Mai, does anybody have experience with similar?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the restrictions concerning 90-day reporting for a visa issued in Chonburi, while currently residing in Chiang Mai. Responses highlighted that it is generally permissible to change the immigration office as long as proper documentation, like a TM30, is filed. Concerns about handling passports through unauthorized agents were raised. It was suggested that after the first report, subsequent ones can be done online.

You can do 90 day reporting in Chiangmai where you resides. This is what Iโ€™m doing with mine, my Non B visa was issued by immigration in Prachuap Khirikhan because I work in Hua Hin but I do my 90 day reporting in Phetchaburi province because my house is in Chaam. Just report your address to Chiangmai immigration.

Just curious, where is your visa agent located? Did you deal with her in Chiangmai or Chonburi?

look here. He is residing in Chiangmai. He said that he received his visa in Chonburi using a visa agent.

He may have used the agent in Chiangmai who then dealt with the immigration in Chonburi or he may have gone to Chonburi to use that agent. It was not mentioned specifically..

So, why don't you please read the post again. ๐Ÿ˜Š

If you used a "grey area" agent, that arranged a visa/extension on your behalf.

It may be difficult for you to have any meaningful interactions at your local immigration.

Short of it is, you may be stuck in the agent loop, where this agent will have to handle it.

As you likely have never lived in the area of the stamp.

You are supposed to use the immigration office allocated to the province you live in(this includes agents).

Your passport belongs to your country, not you. It states clearly inside it or ask any embassy. There's always a risk handing it to an unauthorized third party.

If you apply for a visa or extension yourself at immigration, they always give it back to you before you leave. It's actually a legal requirement herethat a foreigner carries their passport with them at all times or makes it available asap when requested by police, although not enforced much unless you do something really stupid and illegal.

Visa Agents will use an immigration office where they pay the bribe to an immigration officer. This happens all the time. Never ceases to amaze me how stupid people are handing their passports over to a person who is not licenced to perform any immigration function

After your 1st 90 day report you can do the rest online

Typical agent play, mate.

I'd wonder if you're really filed in Chonburi at all...

please post a photo of your stamps or have a Thai friend examine it.

Cheers

You can change immigration office to any location. They generally will need a filed TM30 to show youโ€™re in the new province. Some offices may require a TM28 filed.
