What are the steps for renewing a Retirement Extension in Thailand after an expired visa due to Covid?

Hi again to all,

Would appreciate advice please. I have lived in Thailand for over 20 years on a Retirement Ext. Got stuck in Europe due to the Covid for over 2 years, causing my Ext. to expire. I am now back in Thailand on a 30 day visa exemption and have applied for my Retirement Ext to be renewed. I bought a return ticket from Ireland to avoid any complications Re: an onward flight out of Thailand. That flight is due out on the 20th. May...the same day I am due to report back to Immigration to get the results of my "Application of stay under consideration" result. ..which leaves me little or no time to decide what to do about my return ticket to Ireland if the result was not favourable. I am also not sure what the next step in my Retirement Ext. application is....I was hoping it would be a "Yes" or "No" regards it being granted...but I read on here that the next step is lightly to be a 60 Visa Extention..then after that the Retirement Extention.

Would be most grateful for clarification, if possible.

Thanks once again for any assistance that can be provided.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has lived in Thailand for over 20 years on a Retirement Extension but got stuck in Europe due to Covid, causing their extension to expire. They are currently on a 30-day visa exemption and have applied for their Retirement Extension renewal. The user is unsure of the next steps and timelines, especially since they have a return flight on the same day they must report back to Immigration. Comments suggest that before obtaining a Retirement Extension, they may first need a 90-day Non-O visa, and some suggest they can still utilize their return ticket if needed. An update later confirms they will receive a 90-day extension visa and that they can still use their return ticket if they choose.

, almost 5 years ago, I booked a ticket at EVA Air for about 600€. (Although I was certain that I wanted to stay in Thailand). Then I asked a refund of the return flight on their website with my credentials and got 150€ back after 3 weeks 👍

Just want to add an update for those that may be interested in this topic and to thank those who have been good enough to offer their advice.

I was very reluctant to go back to Soi 5, Jomtien after my experience there

last week (rude to say the least) but went ahead anyway.

The situation is as follows. On the 20th. I will be given a 90 day extention visa and after that I will get my 1 year Retirement Extention....So "All's

Good"... The thought just occurred to me. ..I presume I could still use my return ticket on the 20th. if I choose to rather than waste it or change it to another date and return before the 90 days are up.

Anyway, thanks again to those who helped out....Maybe we will bump into each other some day in Soi 5...GB.

I've never heard of anyone actually getting denied once they have the under consideration stamp. You're overthinking it. Just go in on the date they said and get the rest of your days, and figure out what's next based on what they stamp in your passport.

:

Extension of stay due to retirement does normaly NOT have an under consideration stamp !! Think you got a covid extension of 60 days (with 15 days under consideration). When you have that almost sure this extension is granted. This because you cannot have a retirement extension directly on a visa exempt as
@Michelle ***********
says ! First you need to apply for a non imm O visa (Which can be done IN-country). This then is for 90 days staying in Thailand. Then after 60 days you can apply for the year extension based on retirement.

Why don't u apply for the retirement visa from Ireland itself?

Can't do much about your plane ticket, but can't you get a 30+30 Covid extension? they're giving them out until May 24 I think.

Believe you need 90 day non O first then retirement extension after 60 days
