TLDR : Answer Summary
Currently, the visa exemption for American citizens visiting Thailand is 60 days. There is speculation that the government may revert to a 30-day exemption, but no official announcement has been made yet. Additionally, travelers can apply for a 30-day extension at a Thai immigration office after the initial 60 days, but must exit the country after that.

How does it work now - is the exemption for 30 days upon arrival then a 30 day extension? Or, 60 day upon arrival?

I prepared the needed documents before I arrived into Thailand. Once here, found a condo, then met up with my visa agent. We went to setup bank account and do other associated paperwork. Under a day at immigration and walked away with my retirement visa. Easy process when using an agent. Highly recommended.

if you are over 50 and meet the other limited requirements a non immigrant O visa applied for in your home country is a good option

they already said they won't change it for another year. Their numbers are to low to even consider it. But they find other policies to push people to Vietnam

you mentioned the changing policies, on a comment about visas, was pushing people to Vietnam. Now you've realised you're wrong and been called out on it and are trying to deflect attention away but hey, you do what you want as most people know that your comment is incorrect.

your so full of shit . 60 day to 30 day was going to be a policy change. It's not a visa idiot. Bangkok bank new change to immigration. Policy. Read bangkok Post and keep up idiot. 60 day exemption is not a visa as the op asked about. Its funny you live in Vietnam. Your a real piece

so it's a change which hasn't happened is what you're saying yet you say people are going to Vietnam over something which hasn't happened?? Bangkok Bank changed their policy, an internal bank policy and I'm guessing that's another reason why people are going to Vietnam too? Keep it up, 🤔
