Hi all — I want to apply for the DTV now, but I won’t be able to enter Thailand for 6–8 months. Has anyone either:
1. applied with a flight dated soon, but entered much later?
2. applied with a flight dated 6–8 months ahead?
Any issues with approval or at immigration when you eventually entered? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering applying for a Thai DTV visa but will not enter Thailand for 6–8 months. They seek advice on the implications of applying with a long-dated flight. Community responses indicate that applications should ideally be submitted within 3 months of the intended entry date. Submitting further in advance may result in application rejection or delays. While the visa itself is valid for 5 years, applying too early can complicate the process. A few members mentioned that it's possible to apply with a later flight date and enter later, but it's advisable to follow embassy guidelines closely.
Thanks everyone, that seems to be a pretty resounding answer to have the application date close to entry date. Anyone have experience of applying with an early entry date, but then entering later on?
A. Nony Mous yeh it's not ideal I agree. I am about to buy my 1st house - so have plenty of money (to qualify for the bank balance part). BUT, I need to live in my house for at least 6 months first for tax reasons. So can't come back to Thailand right now. SO want to get the visa now whilst I have the savings
Ah, ok. I get it. You've got a very complicated situation. Still seems you'd be better off "keeping your powder dry" and firing off the application when you are closer to being able to make the move. Good luck!
On the application form, it advises to apply within 3 months of intended entry date. Anything more than that will probably put your application on hold until closer to the date.
Either apply later, or put down a closer flight date. Once you've been granted the dtv you can fly in whenever
