Can I apply for the DTV visa if my entry into Thailand is 6–8 months away?

Hi all — I want to apply for the DTV now, but I won’t be able to enter Thailand for 6–8 months. Has anyone either:

1. applied with a flight dated soon, but entered much later?

2. applied with a flight dated 6–8 months ahead?

Any issues with approval or at immigration when you eventually entered? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around applying for a DTV visa when the entry into Thailand is planned for 6-8 months later. Most comments indicate that applying too far in advance (more than 3 months before entry) may lead to application rejections or delays, as embassies typically advise applying closer to the intended entry date. Some responses mention that while the visa is valid for five years, applying with a distant entry date is generally not advisable. Users recommend applying later or showing a flight date closer to the entry to avoid issues.

Thanks everyone, that seems to be a pretty resounding answer to have the application date close to entry date. Anyone have experience of applying with an early entry date, but then entering later on?

I think a few have used this "Workaround" :-)

should NOT 🚫 be a problem. Just show the departure city and flight arrival date into Thailand. No need to buy it.

Question: Why would want to burn

a year or more off of the visa?

A. Nony Mous yeh it's not ideal I agree. I am about to buy my 1st house - so have plenty of money (to qualify for the bank balance part). BUT, I need to live in my house for at least 6 months first for tax reasons. So can't come back to Thailand right now. SO want to get the visa now whilst I have the savings

Ah, ok. I get it. You've got a very complicated situation. Still seems you'd be better off "keeping your powder dry" and firing off the application when you are closer to being able to make the move. Good luck!

Most Embassies informs that visa application, should not be done more than 3 months before departure.

Check the website of the Thai Embassy you will apply at.

On the application form, it advises to apply within 3 months of intended entry date. Anything more than that will probably put your application on hold until closer to the date.

Either apply later, or put down a closer flight date. Once you've been granted the dtv you can fly in whenever

don't take the risk they may reject your application and you will lose your money. The visa rules say you can apply 3 months before

They will probably reject any applications with an arrival date more than 3 months from the time the application is submitted

Apply about a month before arrival

If you say flight 6 to 8 months ahead they will tell you to apply closer to the time.

1) No problem, the visa is valid for 5 years. You can enter anytime within that 5 years.

2) Many embassies will not process an application if the proposed entry date is greater than 3 months away.
