Can I apply for the DTV Muay Thai visa at over 60 years old?

I'm a US citizen and have visited Thailand many times over the years, always with the visa-exempt 30/60 day stamp. But times have changed and I want a long-term visa and I'm considering all options, including the DTV Muay Thai option. My question concerns age: I'm 60+ and worried that if I apply for the DTV Muay Thai, it will be denied based on my age. Anyone else had this issue?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The concern about applying for the DTV Muay Thai visa as a 60+ US citizen is addressed in the community. Many commenters highlight that there is no upper age limit for this visa type, noting successful applications by older individuals. Alternatives such as retirement visas are also discussed, emphasizing that these may have different requirements. Overall, the community supports the idea that age should not be a barrier for applying for a DTV visa.

I think DTV is better...jst need to take a vacation every 180 days.....

Anonieme deelnemer 625 Why should DTV be better? I see only advantages in flexibility. The only reason I did choose for DTV over retirement is that retirement needs extension every year at the same time in Thailand, and I want to be flexibele in when I am in the country. But retirement is a real long stay visa, and not just a tourist visa.

For the reasons you state. Less paperwork after the first time.

No upper age limit

We had a married couple of 93 and 76 years get the DTV and they actually trained 2 x a week

i remember you posting this. Are they still training? If so fair play!

@Adrian *****
they trained diligently until they returned to Canada last month

Consider retirement visa as well has savings requirement and or monthly income 800k baht /
*****
baht monthly or combination of the two along with accepted health insurance as well.

@Andrew *******
you are confusing two different visas and getting the actual requirements for the visa wrong. Go do some research on Non-O visa requirements.

@Andrew *******
800K/65K and insurance is only mandatory with OA, not the more popular O

At your age you should have some medical problem that a treatment plan could be drawn up for. There is a medical category for the DTV, and the resulting visa is no different than any other.

Got mine applied and approved via Jakarta, while being in Bali the whole time in 5 working days..

I think you can apply Retirement Visa for over 50 ages. Retirement Visa is long term.
Pete *******
A simple retirement visa is the low cost option.
Andrew ********
@Pete ******
retirement requires accepted health insurance by thailand there are added costs and the savings requirement is 800k baht /
*****
min month income or combination of both PER applicant

no you are wrong

@Andrew *******
utter nonsense. Go and actually read the requirements and learn something. The Non-O has no insurance requirements and it’s 65k NOT 75k for the monthly financials.

I do not think he has ever posted without something not being factual. He makes it up as he goes.

@Andrew *******
Once again you post nonsense. Not all Retirement Visas need to have health insurance. We are still waiting for the proof of your pals having to show 500k on entry with the DTV. PS: it is 65k per month if going the income route.

@Pete ******
That is debatable. Some retirees are moving onto the lower cost option DTV
Siggi *******
@Andi **********
what lower costs? It costs more!

i do not think so, as Ossie outlined no need to tie up 800k in a Thai bank account for 5 years earning very little, i travel every 3 months or so anyway so get fresh 180 days easily. 10k for 5 years is a no brainer. The income via investing 800K covers a lot of my personal travel expense. Can work openly online with the DTV which the retirement visa does not allow.

@Andi **********
not 800K in Thai bank, but 500K at any other bank is not that much of a difference financially. And the 800K is not needed when you have at least 65K income each month.

@Luit ****************
where is the 800 k for a non o deposited if not a Thai bank. ? I earn way more in overseas banks/other investments than a Thai bank for sure.
Greg ********
@Andi **********
Not anyone I know and I know a fair few people on Retirement visas.
Ossie *********
@Greg *******
I am a lot cheaper no need for 800k in the bank no need to pay for a multi entry on top of your retirement visa no need for a medical check up no need to renew your visa for the next 5 years the only thing is you do a border run every 180 days good excuse for a few nights away however you have to do your ninety day report which except for the first one where you have to go to the IO all the rest can be done on line
Luit *****************
@Ossie ********
Which 90 day reports can you do online do you think? The first of EACH STAY has to be done in person, you do a border run every 180 days, so all your 90 day reports will have to be done in person, because they always are first...
Andi ***********
@Ossie ********
Yes, those were the reasons others mentioned for moving.
Andi ***********
@Greg *******
Therre are posts by non os moved to DTV and someone last week posted about how many he knows have moved. .Not saying 1000s are moving but there are some for sure. or just choosing to go down DTV route instead of the retirement route like the Op.

Many people over 60 have gotten it for muay thai. If youre still unsure, perhaps look into cooking classes or online seminar

There is no upper age limit. Gyms have reported here in this group clients older than you successfully obtaining DTV Visas.
