TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the possibility of obtaining a DTV visa for expats over 60 years old who are engaged in soft power activities like Muay Thai. Commenters suggest that a retirement visa might be an easier option, highlighting that there are no age or fitness requirements for the DTV visa, backed by examples of older couples successfully participating in Muay Thai training.

We have a married couple who got the DTV she is in her 70s and her husband is 93... and they train 2 x a week. Muay Thai is for everyone

Fitness is not one of the criteria he needs to meet but why not just get a retirement visa, so much easier

non o requires 800k but dtv 500k each (dependentstill needs 500k). Which is do-able. Plus we plan on being home for 3 months and in Thailand for 8. Plus we want to travel around SE Asia as well and use Thailand as a base (keep a 1yr lease on a condo).Plus only the 1 Visa fee for 5 yrs.

Anonymous participant don't forget the cost of a soft power activity as well, you tend need to sign up for at least 6 months or longer. Even with 6 months some consulates have been issuing Multiple Entry Tourist Visas as that covers the course duration

yes, it seems the DTV rulesbare tightening up as well. METV may be our only option. Hoping we can still squeeze 8-9 months out of it.
