Hi,

I'm hearing that the 60 day covid extensions are (at the moment) running until the 27th Sept. I arrived on a 45+30 visa on arrival, extended it for 30 days, then had a 3 month education visa, which ends Sept 5th.

Can I apply for the 60 day Covid extension? When should I do this, and is it necessary to provide proof that you are unable to travel to your home country? I am in Chiang Mai.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of applying for a 60-day COVID extension in Thailand after holding an education visa that expires soon. Responses indicate that the extension is available, but specific documentation is required to substantiate the inability to travel, such as a letter from the embassy or their website indicating travel restrictions due to COVID-19. Other comments ask about the user's education status and whether they need to close their education visa in the location it was issued.

he has an Ed visa... Does he need to have a letter from the school which he registered with for his Ed Visa stating he no longer is a student at (even though he never attended a class)

???

Did he get his Ed Visa in Phuket?

If so will he have to close out the Ed Visa in Phuket...or wherever the Ed Visa stamp was obtained if from an immigration office away from Phuket?

The OP has not stated his real reason for not attending a class of study nor why he is not extending the Ed Visa for another 90 days.
Ellie *******
As long as OP is still on the first 90days from in-country Non-ED, I doubt OP needs the letter from his school because the letter is mostly for canceling extension which he isn't on yet.

Maybe I'm thinking about someone else (I doubt it), but he did post a picture of his ED visa. He has a 90 day zero-entry ED visa issued in Phuket that can't be closed out or cancelled. He should be able to get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 in CM, without showing any cancellation letters.

@Benjamin *****
thank you.

For a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, you will need ONE of the following:

A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR;

A print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR;

A print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

Thanks Paul, I may well do that as the air BNB was expensive and no point getting in bother over renting a cheap hotel room

Thank you, I'll e-mail the airbnb I'll be staying at and let them know. Just a TM30 receipt and nothing else from the property owner for CM then?

Registering me to a hotel they operate instead. I'm unsure what to do, I've already booked and prepaid for the airbnb, but don't want to break any rules.

I have known people to check into a hotel in order to get the TM30 Not giving advice but if that’s an option you may want to look into it

Yes, they proposed an alternative for the TM30 which I'm assuming is common
Benjamin ******
@Adam ********
What's the alternative to the TM30? There is no alternative
Benjamin ******
@Adam ********
Sadly, I highly doubt the AirBnB would have filed a TM30, unless you signed a contract. Short term AirBnBs are illegal in Thailand, and most owners do not submit a TM30 so they can stay under the radar

However, this was issued in Phuket, I am now in Chiang Mai and have not attended classes 😕

Thanks. They accept applications up to 45 days before the end of the visa, so I can try now and make alternative arrangements if it's denied, if I'm understanding it correctly.

Could they revoke my Phuket issued ED visa, based on the fact that I'm clearly not in Phuket?
Benjamin ******
@Adam ********
Visas can not be revoked, and the immigration office has no power to revoke the visas. The 60 day extension of stay begins the moment you apply for it, so I recommend getting the 60 day extension of stay about a week before your visa expires.

Ok, that's perfect. Everything is absolutely clear now. The only remaining question I have is if you know if Chiang Mai require either the I.D card of the property owner I'm staying at, or the full pages of the passport.

I'll leave you alone after this, but again, thanks.
Ellie *******
@Adam ********
You would need TM30 receipt with the address in CM.

My gut would say "no" to that, but I'm not sure. I know Kanchanburi wants it though 🙁

You *SHOULD* be able to get the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 at Chiang Mai.

I see. I am from the UK and I am able to return home, so I would be ineligible for the 60 day covid extension then? There are things to do with quarantine etc., but basically everybody can return to their home country, can they not?

I am currently on a Non-ED.

The UK is currently not issuing a letter, according to their website (see
*********************************************************************************
Search "COVID-19" for the section to print out. You will use that as proof.

To get the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, you will submit the following documents:

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and ant to use their special forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

I'm assuming you are still on your original Non-ED visa stamp, and there is nothing for you to cancel.

Got it now. Thank you so much. Do you know off hand if Chiang Mai require the I.D card of the property owner, or all stamped pages?

Really appreciate the info by the way.
Benjamin ******
@Adam ********
I don't think they do, you might be better off asking the Chiang Mai Facebook groups.

Got you, thanks.

that's not what he said at all. Check your embassy website, they likely have a statement saying they won't issue the letters. Print it out and that's what you need.

>Can I apply for the 60 day Covid extension?

Yes you can. However, are you on your original Non-ED visa, or did you get an extension of stay? If you feel comfortable, can you show your visa/ extension of stay to us?
