60 Days covid extension and plane ticket.

Hi everyone.

I've just arrived in Bkk the 7th December with a classic tourist visa, actually my return to France ticket is the 5th March 2022, so after the 30 days extension has been used.

I would like to stay one more month for take Thai language lessons at a school in Bkk, until the 4th April.

I've understood I can ask for the 60 Days covid extension until the 25th January.

But :

- Does I need to change my plane ticket with the new date until 4th April before going to apply for asking the 60 days covid extension at the immigration ?

- If Im changing the ticket in advance and the extension is not granted, im in a mess and need to pay again to change the ticket date ?

- Does a letter or document from the language school can help to obtain the 60 days covid extension ?

I guess someone here can inform me about these ?

regards

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking to extend their stay in Thailand beyond their 30-day visa extension to take language lessons, but is confused about the requirements for a 60-day COVID extension. Key points of concern include whether they need to change their plane ticket prior to applying for the extension, what to do if the extension is not granted, and if documentation from a language school would support their application. The discussion includes mixed opinions on the necessity of a ticket change, the relevance of school documentation, and the rules surrounding extensions due to COVID-19.

Hello everyone !

So, after the anouncement of the covid extension available until the 25th March, Im now more confused than before, it's getting really tricky for me to understand the conditions to get this extension.

Since my first message on this post i've applied my tourist visa 30 days extension, available until the 5th March .

I would always like to stay one more month in Thailand to follow Thai language lessons in Bkk or Chiang Mai, so until the 5th April or around.

Does the visa extension is for the "impossibility to travel" or "impossibility to return home" ?

as of right now (9am Wednesday Jan 26th) nobody knows. We will make a post when we get more information about how this works.

, The new program is just starting TODAY, after the office opened at 8:30 am.

You still have more than 1 month with your stamp. Why not wait a week or a bit more to see how this program is really going?

So, I will need only another 30 days extension, not 60, if i want to try applying a 30 days covid extension, does I need to change the plane ticket BEFORE going to immigration ?

Ok, so the end of my 30 days extension will be after the 25th January, I will not be able to ask for a Covid extension except if it's again updated by the authorities.

@Stéphane ********
you can ask before the 25th January but the 60 day Covid extension will likely start on the day you apply (if it gets granted which it may well not be given when you arrived). You're only alternative then is to apply for a long term extension of stay or do a border run (by plane unless land borders suddenly open up)

Ok,

So its not so risky to try because:

- if covid extension is still available it means the borders are closed.

-if border are open no need to care about the covid extension.

Depend also of Omicron and co..

@Stéphane ********
, "Borders" are already open, only land borders are closed, which means you can travel internationally. That is one of the reasons why the Covid extension is getting more and more strict. And people have already started traveling. Just not the same as before like an easy border bounce trip in just one day...

Be prepared..

There wouldn't be another 30days extension... 30days tourism extension is only a one-time deal.

If you try to apply for second 30days tourism extension it will be denied, and you will get a 7days-to-leave-country stamp.

So the answering question of yours,

- Does I need to change my plane ticket with the new date until 4th April before going to apply for asking the 60 days covid extension at the immigration ?

-> Some offices may require you have the airticket within that 60days. Some may not. You would know only when you talk to your local immigration office

- If Im changing the ticket in advance and the extension is not granted, im in a mess and need to pay again to change the ticket date ?

-> That is between you and your airline.

- Does a letter or document from the language school can help to obtain the 60 days covid extension ?

-> Not at all
Ellie *******
At most immigration offices, the first Covid extension would start on the day of application, not added.

So if you apply for your first Covid extension before 25 Jan and can get a whole of 60ays, It would be until later March, you may not be able to stay until early April even with it. Prepare for that.
Ellie *******
Remember, it would be only IF your immigration office grants you the whole 60days and when you apply on 25 Jan.

Ok, understood, End of March, it's still much better than 5th March, the course is finishing the 26th March, I will miss only 2 days.
John **********
Given you've only just arrived you might struggle to get a Covid extension but nobody can say until you apply. You will get your normal 30 day extension without a problem. Be aware that the Covid extension (assuming you can even get one) will run from the date you apply, and currently the last date you can apply is 25 January it won't take you to April anyway

As far as you'd like to get the covid extension that is between you and the immigratoin office you deal with. This is program that expires on the 25th of Jan is supposedly the last time they will issue covid extensions AND they are already becoming more strict on issuing them.

A letter from the language school is not going to help get a covid extension in the least. These extension were designed to help people stranded here arrange for flights to go back to where they came from, not as a means to live/stay here.

Good luck with it, GO get the 30 day extension FIRST and talk to your immigration office and see what they say

Many offices are making people who enter on a visa exempt or tourist visa entry to take the 'regular' 30 day extension BEFORE you can apply for the covid extension. If you just arrived on the 7th the earliest you can go to some offices and apply for the 30 day extension would be the 22nd (for the offices that let you do it when you have 45 days or less) for 1900baht. You won't lose any time applying early because the 30 day extension is added to your current expiration date,

Oh ok I didn't know we can apply in advance, I thought it was only 1 week before the end of the 60 first days.
Stéphane *********

Ok, thank you, it's clear !

@Stéphane ********
I edited that post to show that you need to do it when you have 45 days or less left at the offices I mentioned and the rest of them are 30 days or less.
Tod *********
@Stéphane ********
In bangkok, phuket, chiang mai, and buriram you can apply when you have 45 days or less left on your stamp. Other offices are 30 days or less
Tod *********
By "classic tourist visa" what do you mean? you BOUGHT a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate before you winged your way here and were stamped in for 60 days?
Stéphane *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Yes I applied the E-visa online and got stamped for 60 days.
