Hey guys.

I’m going to be applying for a tourist visa on Tuesday morning at the embassy in KL (as need to apply from outside the country.)

I’m on my last few days on an ED visa right now. On my stamp the ED visa expires on the 25th Jan but Tuesday (when I’ve got my application booking) is 23rd Jan. From what I understand no problem with that but want to make sure.

The school have assure me they will cancel the visa but as I interpreted from my previous question on this group this isn’t so important for tourist visas, only for long term such as another ED, business etc.?

Also, I know that KL is 2 working days including the day it is submitted. Does anyone know if the passport is ready for collection in the afternoon or morning? Or does it vary.

We are a couple, UK & Russian passports.

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is applying for a tourist visa at the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur while their education visa (ED visa) is expiring soon. They seek confirmation on whether applying for a tourist visa is acceptable with their ED visa expiration date approaching. Comments from the community discuss the importance of fulfilling visa requirements, the implications for the user holding different passports (UK and Russian), and the responsibility of the user to ensure their ED visa is canceled.

As I don't wish this post to go off the rails, I believe that the OP has the answers needed for his questions. We wish them success in whatever they choose to do.

As followup... They will be flying to KL from Krabi Airport and return to Krabi.

BTW... it's your responsibility to cancel the Ed Visa which you have in your passport. NOT the schools responsibility.

And you need to take a letter from the school to the Thai Immigration office which ISSUED you the Ed Visa STAMP in your passport.

When you come back in on tourist visas prepare to be pulled aside on entry and seriously questioned

cheers for the reply.

Can you elaborate a little more on it?

it is a risk. This is not the place to elaborate. It's the sole decision of the Thai Immigration Officer who greets you on arrival... that's WHY I said don't fly into Thailand. Land BORDER crossing entries are safer for those who have been in Thailand during the past year or more.

Russians have the big benefit of a bilateral agreement between Thailand and Russia...

Included

Bilateral Agreement Russia of 90days for entry between 1st November 2023 and 30th April 2024.

I have several questions...

1. Do you have an appointment on Tuesday at the Kuala Lumpur Thai Embassy?

2. Do you have the SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS for the Thai Tourist Visa as stated on the KL Thai website?

EACH REQUIREMENT must be FULLY MET to obtain the Visa.

3. Why is the Russian passport holder seeking a Thai Tourist Visa when there is a special provision to provide Russian passport holders 90 day Visa Exempt Entry ?

4. UK passport holder :

What is your prior recent history of staying in Thailand?

As the KL Thai Embassy may deny your application based on having too many various Thai Visa stamps and Extensions

- including the COVID extensions.

5. UK passport holder: Why are you seeking to FLY to KL and FLY back to Thailand , with increased opportunity to be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival?

I will await your replies...

Then comment more.

thank.

She (Russian passport holder) isn’t but she still needs to leave and come back whether on visa or 90 day stamp on arrival.

Myself (UK passport holder) is the ED visa (with the extensions 1 year in total) and a previous TR visa from back in 2022. I wasn’t in Thailand before or during covid - only way back in 2017 for a couple of weeks.

I have an appointment yes. Yes I’ve already got all paperwork ready as per the requirements on the official website.

Regarding the flying, I wasn’t aware there is increased risk from flying rather than driving.

If all the paperwork is in place and the visa is granted etc then it shouldn’t be an issue?

Cheers.

thank you for your reply.

Was your Tourist Visa with extension in 2022 followed by the Ed Visa for 90 days plus extensions of stay ending in this month January 2024?

There's NO guarantee that Thai Immigration Officers will admit anyone holding a Thai tourist visa...as well as the Visa Exempt Entry.

To which airport will your planned flight ✈️ return ? BKK, Phuket, Don Mueang or ???
