Hi all— need a simple question answered and can’t seem to find anything similar after searching this group

I am a USA citizen currently in chiang mai (Visa exempt + 30 day extension expiring 17 Jan 2023)

I leave to go to Sydney, Australia tomorrow until January 7. I want to apply for a single entry tourist visa while I am in Sydney since I know one must apply from outside of Thailand

As an Americanc, am I able to apply for the tourist visa in Australia? If so, do I need to go to an embassy, or can it be done online?

Lastly— approximately how long does it take to get the visa? Is it likely that I will be able to apply, get accepted, and get the visa during my 10 day stay?

Thank you in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A USA citizen currently in Chiang Mai, Thailand is seeking to apply for a single entry tourist visa while in Sydney, Australia, after a visa exempt stay and a 30-day extension. They are inquiring about the possibility of applying from Australia, whether it must be done at an embassy or online, and how long the visa process might take during their 10-day stay in Sydney. Comments suggest that it is possible to apply in Australia, stressing the importance of contacting the Thai consulate in Sydney for guidance. Experiences shared indicate flexibility in the application process and caution regarding the processing time.

, Can you apply for a tourist visa for visiting a country (in this case, Thailand) when in Australia while you are a USA Citizen? Maybe not, from my little online research. As you are only in Australia for a week, I don't think you can get a Visa in under a week...unless the Thai Consulate in Sydney has an option to pay an extra fee for an express service.

I'm sure it's an online process only & you can't just 'walk in the door' and apply, or get one immediately.

I have applied for Thailand visas, from Australia, twice. Both times was pre-covid so I am not sure my experience is applicable. However, from what I remember Thailand has a few Embassies in Australia and they each had different rules. Hence, if you don't like what one embassy tells you, go to the next.

Since covid I have applied for a few Thailand eVisas. I too am a US citizen. They're actually pretty flexible about the rule of where you can apply. You may want to contact the Thailand Embassy in the US.

How long will you be staying after your return as you will get a new 30 day visa exempt entry which again can be extended for 30 days?

ideally until the beginning of April.

I know I can do another visa except + extension then a land border bounce, but would like to avoid that if possible as I have friends and family visiting frequently.

Want to do the 60 day + extension for convenience sake more than anything.

Contact Sydney thai consulate as soon as you get to Sydney. As an Australian we can do online pre-approval on the Sydney thai consulate. Have a look you may also be able to
