Hi Dear friends , i am a citizen from Ivory Coast and i have been living in Thailand and working for some international NGO's for 4 years then left Thailand and came back home in my country where i am now . Meanwhile during my stay in Thailand i had a 2 years old baby girl with my Thai girl friend there and we are still keeping in touch as we miss each other .

I would like to go and legally stay in Thailand as i have my 2 years old daughter there .

I heard about a kind of parental visa or the Child support visa which can help me .

I would like to know how does it work and how much will i spend for it ?

As i have been told that with this parental visa i can legally look for job in Thailand .

Thanks for your advice ...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking information on obtaining a parental or child support visa to legally stay in Thailand, where they have a 2-year-old daughter with their Thai girlfriend. The response highlights that the visa is a Non-Immigrant Type O visa specifically for foreigners with Thai children, requiring documentation like the birth certificate, proof of parental rights from family court, and financial qualifications. For marriage visa, Does 400,000 B have to be wired through international bank transfer ? Can the married man deposit cash into Thai bank account?
Barry ******
Thai bank account is fine as long as it's in the persons name

That visa is a Non-Immigrant Type O (other) visa issued because you have a half thai child to support. It requires your name on the birth certificate and other documentation to get issued. It will be a 90 day single entry type and then you'd apply for an extension inside the country at the immigration office. Unfortunately in order to do that you'd need to go thru family court to get granted parental rights, be recognized as the legal father and either bank 400K baht in a thai bank account or show a paper from your consulate you make 40K baht a month. Just having your name on the birth certificate isn't enough.

Thanks Tod Daniels.

Hopefully will never have to go down that route then, lol.

It does say on my visa in my passport. "Thai Child'.

My old visa was a marriage visa. It clearly stated 'Thai Wife' on the visa. Anyway, thank you for the information in regarding courts etc..

@Dan***
, you are most likely on an extension of stay based on marriage NOT based on supporting children. You do one or the other.

Just an FYI: you also have no parental rights because your child was born out of wedlock meaning 100% of the parental rights was granted to your child's mother. Even marrying her, having your name on the birth certificate and having your child hold a passport from your country doesn't give you the parental rights either in the eyes of thai law.

You'd hafta go thru family court to if you wanted to be recognized as the legal father with parental rights. It's not a big issue to you as long as you're married, but it'll throw you right off the rails if you divorce and haven't done this,

ah ok - I had my child before we were married, by about 3 months. But we did the visa after we were married.

the O/P is NOT married to the mother of his child

@Dan***
, I take it you had your child when you were already married ;)

Thanks
@Tod ********
for the fast reply.

Really? Wow! I didn't know that. I guess a lot of employers do not know that either? I was always told in the past I needed a Non - B.

What about the court thing? How come I didn't need to do any of that?

@Daniel *******
you can get a work permit IF you find a job
Daniel ********
Hi
@Tod ********
, I have the Non - Immigrant Type O visa. I didn't need to go through court or anything or that sort to obtain the visa. I and my wife live together and we support the child together from our earnings. I didn't know I could work on that visa??

That is correct Tod

@Tho***
, nope it's not prohibited, You would be able to get a job and carry a work permit on that visa and extension

And working would be prohibited?
