I’m going for my first extension next week. Can I ask for a multi-reentry permit at the same time and will that allow me to leave the country and return as many times as I want (during the one year period) without having to get a reentry permit each time with no worry of losing my visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a multiple re-entry permit at the same time as your visa extension application. Once granted, this permit allows you to leave and return to Thailand as many times as you like during its validity without losing your visa. It is important to ensure that your year extension is finalized before requesting the multi-reentry permit. When returning to Thailand after a trip, ensure you receive a new entry stamp that corresponds with the expiration date of your original visa.

Hi everyone, question to ensure I don’t miss something. I have a multiple entry stamp with my 1 year extension of stay for retirement and will be leaving the country for the first time next month on a short trip to Vietnam. Is there anything I need to do or have with me before leaving and returning other than the normal exiting and return processing through immigration with my passport? Thanks for your input and expertise.
just do the TDAC when returning to thailand will be fine

Thanks for the information Jesper but one last question please. I think I read quite a while ago about someone having a short term stamp mistakenly placed in their passport when they returned and didn’t realize it until they got back home. Everyone said they should have checked before they left immigration and had it corrected because without it being corrected it negated their original expiration date. When I return, will they place any type of new stamp after my original 12 month stamp and if so, I suspect it should have my original expiration date of 5 January 2026?
nothing else to do. Might need to file a new tm30 on return depending on your immigration office

Make sure you only ask for it once the year extension is inked in, not if there is an under consideration stamp etc.
if the extension isn't being immediately approved, sometimes it's sent to head office for approval, then an under consideration stamp is put in the passport, it has a date that you return to get the full extension inked in. An under consideration stamp is a permission to stay until the date on the stamp.

Yes. A multiple re-entry permit allows you to leave/return as many times as you like for the validity period of the permit (your allowed to stay stamp).
