TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether someone residing abroad can apply for a DTV (Digital Nomad) visa while having a Thai spouse and child. Most respondents confirmed that it is possible to apply for a DTV visa if the applicant meets specific requirements, although having a Thai family does not provide additional advantages. Alternatives such as the Non-O visa, which is often considered easier to maintain, were also discussed. The general consensus highlights the need for applicants to fulfill all stipulated requirements regardless of their familial ties to Thailand.

DTV has nothing to do with your Thai wife and the child.

Only if you have a shoe size of 8 or 9.

Yes, but you have to fully meet the requirements, so you won't get a special bonus just because you have a Thai wife and a Thai child.

If you can submit an application that satisfies the requirements for soft power or remote work, then yes, you can. The fact you have a Thai wife and kid doesn’t really come into it.

Hi, I had been on a Non-O visa for around 13 years with a good record.

For the past 2 years, I’ve been back in my home country and my visa has expired. The last time nov2025 I visited Thailand, I entered on a Visa on Arrival, but at immigration said me to come with a proper visa next time.

no it’s not. If we were playing Visa top trumps a DTV beats marriage visa hands down..

why? Marriage visa can count towards residency/citizenship, can get work permit, can extend as long as your married. Don’t have to leave country, can open bank account.

DTV pro - 5 years. Can show less money

residency/citizenship is a red herring, especially as most people don't want it anyway so not a visa consideration. If you want to work in Thailand then you can't get DTV anyway. Don't need to extend DTV as it is five years. It is a lot less hassle, money can be in any accessible account earning interest unlike marriage visa, and no one is coming to visit your home! I could get either but for me DTV is much better. Just my opinion.

The financial requirements for a Non-Immigrant O visa due to a Thai spouse are 100k less than the DTV not to mention that it is an actual Non-Immigrant visa so it’s better for living in Thailand continuously. OP didn’t really state any intentions in their post but even if they want to spend 3 months a year in Thailand then a conventional tourist visa is easier than getting a DTV.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 no one is talking about a conventional visa, whixh would be a more expensive option. Non o requires money to be in a Thai bank account and, sometimes, proven every 90/year. There are also extension fees. It can be a hassle too. Dtv costs more up front, but less in the long run and money can stay in home country bank.
