Can I apply for a DTV visa in Vietnam while holding a METV from Japan?

I applied for a DTV remote worker visa in Tokyo with a US passport, with all the required documents and prerequisites, and was given a multiple entry tourist visa instead, valid for six months. Do I have to wait for the METV to expire before applying again for the DTV soft power through vietnam?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has encountered an issue with the Japanese embassy, receiving a METV instead of the desired DTV remote worker visa. There is a debate in the comments about whether the user must wait for the METV to expire before applying again for the DTV in Vietnam. While some commenters assert that waiting is necessary, others share experiences suggesting that it may be possible to apply without waiting, citing specific cases where individuals obtained the DTV while holding a METV.

No apply there they only make you problems with everything I try to take a 6 month TR visa they give me. 2 months one after spend more than 500 buck buying everything they ask, the reason I don’t have nothing to warranty that I come back my country(but I can still entry with normal visa) Scam Embassy

Yes, you'll need to wait.

Seems to be happening frequently in Japan ie METV instead of DTV

There are others who have posted they have to wait till METV is expired before you can apply again. I am starting to suspect it may be delivered giving METV rather than just rejecting to make you wait. I have no evidence for that theory :-)

Tokyo embassy seems to be stricter than Fukouka Embassy with the DTV.

I do not understand giving METV for Workaytion as it is illegal to work in Thailand on that visa. I know the risks of being prosecuted are tiny to non-existent but strictly speaking in Thai Employment/Labour Law even remote work is illegal on a METV (and many other visa types).

Very true, surprising they issuing the METV for workcationers. They do note alternative visas can be issued.

Tokyo Embassy wants applicants to demonstrate not just that they are working online but that the work justifies a 5 year visa.
