I am a citizen of Myanmar currently living in Chiang Mai with a Non-ED visa.
My current student visa will expire in coming May since it is for a one year program. So, I am planning to apply for a DTV visa to live longer in Thailand.
I would like to know if it is still possible to go back to Myanmar (Yangon) and apply the DTV visa this year?
I am quite worried about the airport security news I have heard lately. Also, I am within the age scope that they need for the military service. That's why...
Can someone please give me some advice?
Thank u in advance!
Edit :Thank you very much for all your suggestions. I am now planning to go to Cambodia. Your suggestions helped. I didn't ask in the wrong group. π₯°

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Myanmar citizen currently living in Chiang Mai on a Non-ED visa is inquiring about applying for a DTV visa as their student visa expires in May. They expressed concern about traveling back to Myanmar due to recent news and age-related military service issues. The community largely advises against returning to Myanmar, suggesting alternative countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, or Indonesia for applying for the DTV visa instead. Many respondents share their personal experiences and recommend applying from nearby countries to avoid complications.
I was with TR for about 8 months then switched to DTV in Cambodia with an agent. I wouldn't going back to Myanmar, since those who stayed much longer have troubles getting back out
Is there anyone who applied DTV with agents ? I already got Visa and around the corner of May 2025 I have to go outside of Thailand. I am worry that if I come back to Thailand after 2 weeks trip , immigration officer ask me for documents when I applied DTV. Because my agents didn't give me any documents and he said these are confidential. Thai embassy already approved my visa and any of immigration officer doesn't have right to deny my visa & also ask for documents. But I am afraid π. How can I handel for this ? I'm also a Myanmar passport holder and updat news of during these days I got more stress for my case.

Fly to Vietnam it's close and easy

Just go to Vietnam and apply DTV. It is easier and faster if you have all required documents.

Well, in that case, head to Laos, Cambodia or Vietnam and apply from one of those. Easy to enter any of them as a Myanmar / Burmese citizen.

My gym is in chiang mai We have processed successfully for Myanmar citizens.
they are known for making people log into their app or website of their bank while you're at the interview and show the balance to prove you really do have 500k baht π
That's because they were both hit really hard with scam applicants early on
I will start telling people about Jakarta, they were slow when they first went to the eVisa system but now people are saying they really sped up the approval process there
last few we have done in the last few weeks have only taken 3 days

We just went to Taipei and got ours in 4 days. Applied late Sunday night. We had to get an exit and entry certificate from Taiwen which we didn't expect (request came 6am on Monday morning). Probably because we had been in Thailand before we applied and Thailand likely wanted evidence that we were no longer in the country. We received our approval 5am Thursday morning.
Dunno, just telling you what happened for us and why I think they might've done it. This was last week. Our exit from Thailand was manual, nothing electronic as far as I could tell, though we did get physical exit stamps. Our entry to Taiwan was digitally recorded.
Thank you very much for your opinions and concerns. However, I truly have an intention to apply a DTV visa and I am now planning to go to Cambodia for it. I didn't ask in the wrong group, fortunately. I got so many suggestions which can help me decide π₯°

Anonymous participant 578 agrees, we actually have a DTV group for Myanmar nationals (DTV visa α‘ααΌα±α¬ααΊαΈααααα―αα¬αα±αΈααΌααΊαΈααΌαααΊ) and she is not attempting to ask this question in the local group, but rather seeking advice from foreigners. Is she really trying to gain sympathy from unknown foreigners, who arguably have nothing to do with Myanmar and may not be aware of its severe political situation? Surely, she has asked in the wrong group.π

Anonymous participant 578 pardon me but you are wrong. He's welcome to ask his questions on this forum and received helpful ADVICE.

Anonymous participant 578 why? OP wants to apply for DTV, right?
I am Myanmar Citizen and I got DTV visa. I apply by myself through online application. Suggested not to come back. Try from nearest country that you can go from Thailand.
what outside source of income did you need to provide for the application? Do you have an online job while youβre staying with that visa in Thailand? Thanks!
cool, thanks! Just wondering since Iβm interested in DTV myself. Iβll be applying from Canada. I donβt have an online job but Iβm trying to figure out what to do.

I see. Are you doing the same job in Thailand that you were doing in Myanmar?
I was on education visa for 2 years. I applied for DTV in Feb at Hanoi which took 5 working days excluding the day of submission and got approval. You should tried that.
hi Thiri by writings it is not included but yes it is not excluded also however if the likelines to be approved and not to be approved I find many applicants has been denied no reason at all
Donβt go back to Myanmar. I recommend going to Laos or Vietnam to apply DTV cause their processing time is fast. But make sure your documents are correct.

Laos is hard for Myanmar passport holders. I'd suggest Vietnam (Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh) or Indonesia (Jakarta). Make sure to cancel your Ed visa in CM - then you have a few days to leave. As long as you get the next visa, you don't need to go to Burma to apply. Even if rejected, you'd be able to fly in for 15 days and make a new plan.
There is no clear evidence nor clear indication of who is allowed or not allowed in Myanmar airport. Thatβs the main insecurity of people who want to return to the country.
