I'm from the UK but haven't lived there for many years. I have been working abroad and travelling non stop for over ten years. I'm currently in Thailand on a tourist visa. What's the easiest way to go about applying for the DTV? I have enough in the bank and do not want to have to go back to the UK if I can avoid it.

Are there any differences in doing it from Laos or Cambodia?

A rough timeframe?

I work for an online teaching company. Is it better to state that, or to say I'm going to have Muay Thai classes (which I am, in fact)?

Cheers all!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat from the UK currently holding a tourist visa in Thailand is seeking advice on the easiest process to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) without returning to the UK. They inquired about potential differences in the application process when applying from Laos or Cambodia, the expected timeframe for approval, and whether to emphasize their online teaching position or their interest in Muay Thai classes. Comments provided various experiences and suggestions, highlighting that Laos requires a substantial bank balance for three months, and giving insights into quicker application processes through different locations, notably mentioning Yangon, Myanmar, as a favorable option.

I don’t have an answer, but I have a question. Which online company do you work for? Interested.

You’ll need proof of whatever reason you apply for

If your a contractor like me you can apply for DTV.

These can do it for you.

Laos you need to have 500k banked for 3 months. Cambodia is ok with a final balance of 500k. . The quickest way to get the DTV for me , also a non resident UK citizen, was walk in application at Taipei, 2 working days to be approved. They said in theory the same timeline for online approval but they request extra paperwork with online applicants which delays approval. Vietnam, Jakarta, Yangon, Cambodia, Manilla would be more "friendlier" options.

cheers man. The funds are there, and have been for a while so no issues with that. Accommodation is more reasonably priced in Vietnam than Laos and I speak the language so that option seems the better one. I was under the impression that 'walk-in' applications are no longer a thing and all applications must now be done online?

Yes, from Jan 1 everything is done online. I went to Taipei just before it ended walk-ins, last month. It was the fastest DTV visa process, but you need to be on point with paperwork. Vietnam is a great choice and yeah, very well priced accommodation there as well as the delicious FOOD options.

was the process quite straightforward? I read on another post that someone said Cambodia took longer, but was an easier process?

The best, and fastest now seems to be in Yangon Myanmar, through the Thai embassy there.

Accommodation is pretty expensive there though, right?

@Gee ****
no. It is very cheap, as tourism has been decimated there with all the war propaganda.
