Hi, thanks for letting me join. I arrived on the 60 day exemption visa last week. I'm married to a Thai citizen so therefore I can apply for the Thai wife non o visa. I have been told that I need to get a 90 day non immigrant o visa first before I can apply for the wife visa. Can I apply for this visa at a Thia consulate in a surrounding country. If so what country would be the best to do this.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, who is married to a Thai citizen, arrived in Thailand on a 60-day exemption visa and is seeking information about applying for a 90-day Non-O visa. They were informed that they must first secure a 90-day Non-O before applying for a Thai wife visa. Various comments confirm that the 90-day Non-O can be obtained either within Thailand at an immigration office or at a Thai consulate in a surrounding country. Requirements include having 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account, with conditions regarding how long the funds need to be held before the visa application.

do not have affidavit for proof of money in account from most embassies now ,you need 400,000 =marriage visa or 800,000 buat for retirement visa, which is the best way to do it

retirement is easier on the paperwork. Marriage requires the police come to your house and do inspection and ask neighbors about you. Of you have the funds I definitely do retirement. I am married to Thai and I choose retirement. You also have more control this way. You anger your wife and she may not help. Seen it.

he,he, marriage visa is the ,best way to go ,no insurance and half the money in the bank account 400,000 buats instead of 800,000 buat,

it's a pain in the ass to take the pictures and have police come to house and verify the pictures and then you need neighbors to put in a good word. I have a neighbor I can't stand. She is jealous of my wife. The IO gave me crap about my photos . She compared money to another and said my didn't look sincere. Rubbish. Retirement if you have the money is a lot more hassel free. Many reason why I switch my visa. Your the one in control of you submit a retirement not your neighbors word or police visit just to prove my marriage is real.

retirement doesn't require insurance either

You can apply directly for a 90 days Non O based on marriage and the financial requirements are 400K baht in a Thai bank at date when you apply.

Within 90 days you can apply for your first year extension of stay (as several people names one year visa) and the funds needs to be seasoned for two months prior to your application.

I already have the money in the bank so there is no problem there. So your saying you can convert a tourist visa to a 90 day non immigrant o visa at immigration in Thailand. My wife spoke to them and they told her I should get an e visa, when I get the email confirming the visa I should leave the country and then come back in on the visa. I checked on the Thai website and it said I had to apply from my own country and that I couldn't apply in Thailand. It's so confusing, when I speak to immigration they always seem to give me different answers to the same questions depending on who you speak to. where can I find this information about doing your 90 day visa in Thailand so I can take to the immigration office next time I go.

at Khon kaen immigration, they didn’t ask for the 400.000 when I converted to Non-O visa 90 days.

Only for the 12 months extension, that was necessary.

This was 2 months ago .

Khon kaen immigration are very good. (most of the time )

I bet you showed them the legalized income affidavit from your Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok, instead of a 400,000 THB deposit . . . that's one of the official two options: income OR deposit. And for the application to the 12-months extension, an income affidavit should also have been accepted - I don't understand why they would ask you for a deposit. Maybe you only had ONE income affidavit (you actually need TWO legalized copies - one for the application to the visa which they will keep, and another one for the application to the extension - which they also will keep)

No , I didn’t show them anything for the initial Non-O visa 90 days.

No affidavit or bankstatement.

I only informed Mr Nesland my experience from immigration. So things varies from officers on different places.

So people inside Thailand should go in person at the immigration officers to find out their situation.

I only reply to you people who actually know what you write about. And you know that it not always black and white.

Ok, good the requirements varies but this is normally the general requirements I guess. Some accept a affidavit letter and some don’t too, and it’s of course always recommended to get handed over the specific requirement at your immigration first.

You can apply for the initial 90 day Non-O inside the country at an immigration office. You'll need 400k baht in a Thai bank account (but there's no time requirement on it).
