Can I activate international transfers on my Thai bank account opened with an ED Visa now that I have a DTV Visa?

I have Thai Bank account opened by ED Visa, but bank now rejects international transfer of it.

Now, I got DTV Visa and

I would like to go bank to allow international transfer again.

Would it be ok? Anyone who tried to complain in bank with DTV Visa for Bank account opened with ED Visa like this.

I worry that they will say to withdraw all money and close the account cos I’m not living with ED Visa anymore.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about the change of visa status from an ED (Education) Visa to a DTV (Digital Nomad) Visa and its impact on their ability to conduct international transfers using a Thai bank account previously opened under the ED Visa. They worry about the bank's potential requirement to close the account due to the visa change. Community members suggest contacting the bank's customer service for clarification, considering alternative transfer methods like Wise, and highlight other banking options. There is a consensus that the situation might vary depending on the specific bank policies.

It could be your phone number ownership proof that is the problem. Happened to me.

I also thought this might be issue at first. But, it is not because I’m still able to use in local transaction.

They only block me for international transfer like Wise and Instarem.

Anonymous participant if it was your visa you wouldn’t be able to use it at all and would have to go bank and withdraw everything.

This is just an option: why not open a Charles Schwab account with a checking and correlating ATM card? There are no fees for anything and you are reimbursed for ATM fees, even in a foreign country.

Think you need to talk to the main bank in bkk and authorise your account

Sure, I will talk to the bank about this but, u know, I just worry that they'll tell me to close the account since I'm not living with student ED Visa anymore.

Thanks much for the info, Jef. Looks like SCB is still supported. I'll need to talk to bank in that case.

Open a Wise account for international transfer and then withdraw it to your Thai bank. It will be cheaper and less hassle.

I used to have and it had been my first option before I have my Thai bank account.

Unfortunately, one day I got an email that my Wise account got disabled with the reason that I broke one of their policy (I don’t know which one xD). I already appealed to them for this and they kept declined.

With a tourist visa you are treated as a tourist by banks, such things happen...

Just call the bank customer service and ask how to activate it. Most things usually only require a phone call.

Have your bank book and bank card nearby.
