Can foreigners open a bank account in Pattaya with a 90-day visa?

very difficult to open a bank account in any country nowadays,i personally use n26 when im travelling as a tourist,closed my bank a/c with krungthai last year after 40yrs every month a new obstacle.if you own a condo then no problem

not all banks same. bangkok bank opened my account tourist visa the 30 day one.

In Europe no tourist would ever be able to open a bankaccount on a tourist visa.

Why should it be possible here? It doesn't make sense for a bank to do that

I am on 90 day non o visa and opened an account with Bangkok Bank in Jomtien, Second Rd and Soi 7. Needed a resident certificate, which I was able to get with a Tm30 receipt(no contract).

Staff just make this stuff up on the spot don't believe them

Opened a new account on Wednesday. Saw many foreigners in the same bank branch at the same time with a variety of agents. As far as I understand they were all applying for non-o visa changes leading to the retirement visa.

A visa should not be needed for a bank account.

If you are shocked then it is because you didn't do a proper research before trying to open a bankaccount.

It is commen knowlegde that it is next to impossibel for foreigners to open a bankaccount in Thailand, lots of posts in the group tell that.

Banks in Thailand are like everywhere in the world, interested in having good stable custormers, that have a permanent address, a steady easy traceable income, and use the account all year round.

That is why the banks are reluctant to give accounts to people on short time ( read: tourist ) visas, and who only spend part of the year in Thailand.

Don’t expect to get a residence certificat, until you have stayed at a permanent adress in at least 3 month, since that is what the residence certificat should confirm.

Furthermore the added attention on whitewashing of money, is an added burden on the banks, so reluctant depositing large amounts isn’t a guaranteed way to open an account.

The value of a resident certificat, had gone down, since Immigration Officers are giving them to people that are not on a longterm visa, or have stayed severel months at 1 adress in Thailand, so even if it is a formal requirement, the bank make up their own assesment of the stability of the want-to-be customer.

They change the rules , can no longer open . They are phasing out all options , I wouldn’t bother as they are also closing accounts already open

Bangkok Bank on second road Jomtien opposite Rompho marked. (Between Soi 5 and 7) accepted to open a bank account on the initial 90 days Non O visa with a driver license (national/thai) and receipt from a TM.30 registration at a hotel. This was in February.

Here’s a suggestion Use a Cambodian bank account, you can open one on a tourist visa and you can do Thai QR payments and transfers so much easier and less hassle. I have a cambo bank account and it allows me to make Thai payments ect.

here in this group there are people who claim that you can open a Thai bank account on a tourist visa, if you use and agent and if you are willing to buy more of their services, like a visa service, from that agent. I just wonder why they all keep quiet and haven't posted yet, directing you to the "right" agents

You can still do it with an agent around 12k now. Lad in my building did it last week.

nothing new. reported weeks ago by someone called Nelly. Everyone took the piss out of them and then all of a sudden everyone started saying it,,,, the piss takers suddenly went quiet. you can still open accounts you just need to know where......and with who. There are agents doing it still.

The essential change is that instead of a 12 month ‘one off’ Personal Accident Insurance policy Bangkok Bank now insist upon us taking out their Life Insurance. There is security value for your partner in so doing. Wife has a couple of friends whose Farang husbands turned alcoholic, drank their savings, incurred hospital bills then died leaving them unable to pay for their funerals. My wife has taken out Life Insurance upon myself with Thai Life.

I have pink Thai ID it took one and half hours of phone calls by bank to receive 2nd Kasikorn bank account. It was much easier to get a bank account 2 years ago.

I don't know how it's going to be now but you can give it a shot. Bangkok Bank the branch opposite the McDonald's on Soi Buakhao. Try the young lad if he is still there.

Every branch of every bank is different, just need to keep trying but I'd have the residence certificate in hand
