Does anyone have a feel for which city, Bangkok or Pattaya, would be easier to open a bank account whilst in country on a visa exempt status? Which bank(s)? Thanks again.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Expats looking to open a bank account on a visa exempt status can consider both Bangkok and Pattaya. In Pattaya, agents tend to be cheaper, with some mentioning costs around 3000 baht for banking services. Opening an account typically requires visiting a branch and explaining the need for the account; having a Thai person to assist can be beneficial. It's advisable to choose a bank branch in the province where you plan to stay longest to avoid service charges for out-of-province transactions. Bangkok Bank is noted for its potential to assist with account setups related to visa applications, but there are service charges associated with transactions and requirements for specific paperwork to meet immigration standards.

Somethings can only be done at your home branch so branch should be where you live for your convenience.

Quite a number of things. Bank letter for immigration. Bank statement for immigration. Tax withheld on interest earned statement for filing Thai personal income tax report. Closing an account. Rolling over a fixed deposit account into another account. Pretty much anything I do at the bank. If I am allowed to do it at another branch it's probably something I could do from an ATM, Passbook update machine, or Cash Deposit Machine. ;-)

Just remember there will be service charges for transactions out of the province where the account is opened. Better to open the account in the province you will stay longest.

If you intend to apply for a non-O married or retirement visa, get a copy of the requirements for the visa from the immigration office. Take this and your passport, and a Thai person and go to a Bangkok Bank. Either yourself or the Thai person can explain to the branch manager that you require the bank account in order to meet the financial requirement of the O visa. You do not have to pay any money to some lowlife agent who will simply do what you can do yourself.

Just go into a bank and tell them you need to open a bank account for your visa. If they say no just go to different branches. You will have to put a couple of k baht in.

Go into Central , I would think they are well used to dealing with foreigners.

- I have to say I don't understand your answer, would you please give a bit more detail? Thanks

@Scot ******
if you are here on visa exemption and staying in a hotel you will struggle to open a bank account yourself

What I’m saying is if you choose to use an agent to assist you it is cheaper in Pattaya and the cost will be 3000b and your new account will be at Bangkok bank

- I see, and that's just for a bank account? I can probably handle the non-o visa after that. How much is it in Bangkok?
