Not sure if you all are aware but you can get a fully verified TrueMoney account now with just passport and DTV - can accept and send QR/promptpay payments.

If you use the true money machines at mrt or true stores, can load up to 20k at a time. Max wallet balance 50k.

I hate cash and thai banks don’t seem to be an option now so this is the best solution imo.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses how expats can obtain a verified TrueMoney account using only their passport and Digital Verified ID (DTV), allowing them to send and accept payments via QR code and PromptPay. Users mention their experiences with the service, including top-up limitations and the verification process. There are mixed comments regarding the necessity of DTV for account verification and the functionality of TrueMoney for users on different visa types, with some reporting issues when using a tourist visa.

worth looking into

Yes, Moreta is now free as well (no fee per transaction) and can be topped up with a foreign account
Ric ******
@Carlos ********
where do you see that Moreta is now free? They're still trying to sell me the "gold" package (monthly fee) to lower the transaction fee to 1,5%.

Doesn't work with my Thai shopee-account. Doesn't work with private QR receivers.

I'd say it's pretty usesless for me.

@Ric *****
you need to update the app
Stef *****
Useless: need to withdraw cash and put it in another machine to top up your account...

Weird take. Unless you’re buying a car/house - it allows for a cash free life here.

@John *****
did you register using a Thai phone number?
Tore *********
I got True Money based on passport, I don’t think you need to show DTV.

BS...

True money doesn't work on Tourist Visa... Must be Non class.. (I have Thai bank accounts)

I had to go back to tourist visa at the start of the month and my account was suspended...

I need to upload proof of Non class Visa(which I am waiting for new papers etc)

This is Thailand. Rules are flexible/bendable and most of the stuff just depends on the mood of the specific person you are talking to

@Andrew *******
BS, Truemoney works perfectly fine for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Andrew *******
works for me after verifying the picture of my dtv stamp

@Andrew *******

I don’t think you need DTV for that, I verified same account just with passport and no one didn’t ask me for DTV, about half year ago. The only think deposit limit in 7/Eleven.

Cash 💵 is king 🤴 🙂

And for the rest Wise work pretty well 🙂 when I hear people pay agents to get bank account it just ridiculous 😂

For the 2nd tier verification to access QR/prompt pay you need more than passport. Cash sucks lol

@John *****

and you selected passport with non immigrant visa ? There is no section about DTV btw
Dany ********
yes, been using it for some months now. they opened some functions this year for foreigners and registration last year. 👍 but 3k top-up limit per transaction in 7-11 is pretty annoying

Thanks John. I made a post about this very topic today asking about it. Some people said that it can't be done with the DTV. I'll give it a try. Did you have to upload your passport and proof of DTV? Thanks

@Ben *******
just passport and dtv stamp
Michael *******
Deep wallet is working too ( cost about 400 baht per month )
Klaus *********
@Michael ******
Why someone would pay 400 THB monthly just to be allowed to pay with QR Code. What a rip off!

@Michael ******
can’t beat free lol. If you have a bank that refunds atm fees Charles Schwab etc this route has zero fees cheaper and easier than using wise
John *********
Schwab refunds it. No limit. Anywhere in the world. And doesn’t charge a fee on top. I suspect less than 5%.

No Thai QR code with it. Just a nice option for Americans.
Michael *******
@John ********
they refund the 220 baht ? All time i find atm exchange rate not good if you compare to wise.
Michael *******
@John *****
atm have not good exchange rate ( about 5% ) , and you still have 220 baht atm fee, I don't think schwab refund this ? And it is not qrcode thai usage.
John ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Michael ******
I never use the atm exchange rate. Travel 101. Of course Schwab isn’t on thai promptpay system. I mentioned it because in combination with Truemoney you get almost fee free access to qr system.
Michael *******
Ha okay, with truemoney, i will probably try it, but i use deep wallet for 6 month, it work good ( for a fee of 400baht/month ) easy to get online ( and i consider it Cheap to use .. )
