For this DTV holders like me who failed to open a bank account. Have you tried or heard about Tag Thai? Seems like you can pay with QR code thanks to this app. Any feedback from anyone? I want to go tomorrow to subscribe. I dream of not having to go around with cash all the time.
Thanks 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around DTV visa holders in Thailand and their challenges in opening bank accounts. Users express frustration with existing banking and payment options, including Tag Thai, which requires cash for top-ups and can only accommodate foreign currency. Alternative services like TrueMoney and Moreta Pay are suggested, with the latter reportedly allowing seamless QR code payments after swift account setup. However, limitations on cashless transactions in informal settings are noted.
Tag Thai, True all hard work and tedious to use/top up (in cash)/ sign up etc …
All the fixation on opening a bank is quite odd considering deposited monies would be monies remitted into this country and likely causing questions liabilities down the line
Newly launched in beta in Thailand i’ve found Moreta Pay signed up in about 10mins / they only have USD account at the moment (gbp/euro) coming soon so just created one on wise funded it then linked it to the app.
It’s worked seamlessly in all businesses/ stores i’ve been in scanning QR codes. and can pay bills etc linked via Lazada.

Only constraint is it’s business QR codes at the moment - so paying the little old lady at the market 50baht to her personal qr code won’t work (coming soon apparently) but i think stall traders would sooner prefer cash and long it prevail.
Linked it here: Hope it helps

1. finding a booth of the bank that actually does it will be a nightmare. especially outside bangkok
2. only cash and apparently only foreign cash
so it doesnt look very good right now… you could just get truemoney and use that instead. and top up in TRUE shop or 7-11. while the later has a limit of 3k top up. but also only cash.
This is only if you have hard cash currency to exchange..it’s not to transfer money from your own bank onto the card so it’s no use

As far as I figured out... You can only change foreign cash and put that on your account and use the scan function... There's (till now) not a possibility to transfer funds into this account
