TLDR : Answer Summary
DTV holders in Thailand cannot obtain a local bank account, but they have several options for paying rent and utilities. Common methods include using international money transfer services like Revolut, Wise, or Remitly for rent, with options for cash payments through 7-11 or utility apps like Lazada for utilities. Some expats have also successfully used a prepaid card from Kasikorn Bank or asked friends to help with transfers. It's advisable to compare fees from different services before making a transfer.

You can try Moreta App, it's a top up wallet that can pay by scan and it works for Business QR code in Thailand

Recently, aka 2026, K bank started to offer a visa debit card that tourists could load. Also gave access to app and QR system. Go back and ask them. You can then use WU, collect money and top up the card

Anything but local Thai bank transfer that your landlord takes. Some may even be open for crypto

Utilities can be paid with cash at 7-11 or card online.

Get a prepaid card from Kasikorn bank . You can use it to swipe or as ATM card. You need to top up as required. This can also be associated to some utility apps using which you can scan QR and pay

Easy to pay utilities using Lazada as others have said. Services such as Remitly and Paysend also good for rent payment. I prefer Paysend.

I pay my rent and other bigger bills via Revolut swift transfer. it costs very little and takes a few mins to transfer. i just paid 3 months rent and utilities = 47k baht / 1284€. and i paid a 1,15€ fee. Its cheaper and better than Wise which is also an option.

alternatively you can pay via cash, truemoney. and utilities via 7-11 with cash or lazada app in general.

Hey Dany, thanks for this… really useful. Does Revolut warn you about the fees prior to completing the transfer?

Revolut is not always cheaper than Wise, when you really need every baht, you should check every time at moment of transfer.

Just at this very moment 1000 THB costs EUR 27.78 at Revolut and EUR 26.70 at Wise, so Wise is much bettet at the moment, so your statement is not correct.

I check every now and then the difference and most times Wise is the better one.

I did not forget anything, I just checked in both apps what 1000 THB cost including costs.

Just checked how much THB for EUR 100 like in your example

Wise 3632.25

Revolut 3601,20

if i transfer 100€ via Revolut then the recipient gets 3621 baht. incl. fees…

so Revolut is better right now. and almost always.

you can clearly see the 2,85€ fee that is automatically added / included in the 100. and above you see the rate. so make the math or believe the numbers that the app shows you.

for me it is 3570.77 with Wise and 3551 with Revolut.

No idea why our accounts are treated different.

Wise charges me EUR 2.42, Revolut EUR 2.38

Wise 1 EUR = 36.5933

Revolut 1 EUR = 36.3758

so now suddenly you come up with totally different numbers than you stated above. isnt that strange? 😅 and which functionality do you use in Revolut app? because you would need to input thai baht in the transfer function. you probably never used it… its different than on Wise… you go to transfers (middle button in the app). top right +. select international. thailand. select your account (i do euro). select transaction type bank (not card!!). enter the amount in thai baht.

maybe you selected a wrong transaction type (card) which comes with extra fees.

first set of numbers was not to Thai bank account, but just exchange within own account.

As we discussed in PM, the difference seems to be because I use a free Revolut account and you use a paid plan.

Especially in the weekends that seems to make difference.

Strange is that Wise for ne is a bit better than for you.

To make a long story short, you always have to check actual fees and rates, and they can be better when you have an account you pay for.

i guess they are all same same in terms of business practices (account closures, support, etc.)… i have both but Revolut is cheaper, faster and allows transfers to any swift code. while Wise is limited. but they both work and differences are small.

Pay your electricity through Lazada app.

If you need to pay rent to a landlord that lives far away, get their bank info and bring cash to their bank to deposit it into their account.
