TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the eligibility of Thai language classes for visa options under soft power initiatives in Thailand. It clarifies that the ED visa is the appropriate option for language classes, while the DTV visa may pose risks and is generally not suitable for this purpose. Some community members mention that certain schools are now offering courses that combine language and culture, which might align better with soft power criteria.
I am also interested in this, and as far as my research shows - DTV won't work for _just_ language learning. Some schools are currently creating courses "Thai language and culture" which might be more suitable for Soft Power depending on an embassy. In this group, there were several reports (but definitely not many) of success with TSL Chiangmai (the name of the school), although I don't remember from what embassy. Search for 'TSL' in the group, and you might find more info.

You'll need to apply for an ED visa, even though I've heard some people have managed to get one with a DTV. That’s only if you're genuinely serious about learning Thai, as language schools are now under scrutiny and must provide proof of attendance and other documentation. There have been some very recent news about this.

It's NOT wise to apply for the DTV visa as studying the Thai language. Although there are a few who have obtained it, too risky as it's not one of the Soft Power activities.

ED Visa can be a good choice if you want to do Thai language classes.
