What are the differences between an Ed visa and a DTV for studying Thai, and should I apply before or after arriving in Thailand?
What’s the diff between a Ed visa and at DTV with the intention of studying Thai. Should I apply for either after entering Thailand on an exempt or should I apply before I arrive? I guess I have to go find a school that will sponsor me first so does that answer my first question? I should come in exempt?
Background; I’m already a qualified international school teacher with 15 years experience teaching outside Thailand in other parts of Asia. I’m looking to take some time off in Thailand, study Thai then apply to international schools in Thailand for employment but later.

Then the tourist visa will give you plenty of time to find a school to study at, and if the 60 days isn't enough you can extend it once for 30 days

First off you are very unlikely to get a DTV for studying Thai. That's what an ED visa is for.
Secondly it can be a pain trying to get off a DTV so you can apply for a Non-B visa once you find employment.
Coming in visa exempt or probably better a tourist visa and checking out a few schools before signing up for one isn't a bad idea
