TLDR : Answer Summary
An Indian passport holder on a tourist visa can get a 30-day extension while in Thailand, provided they meet the usual extension requirements. It's important to clarify whether they arrived on a standard tourist visa or a visa exemption, as this may impact the extension eligibility. Generally, those with a tourist visa are entitled to extend their stay for an additional 30 days, whereas those on a visa on arrival may only be allowed a 7-day extension. Some commenters noted variability in the application of these rules based on different immigration office policies.

Given the number of Indian touts I have seen in bkk I would think easy to stay and work or are they illegals.

I'm confused about what I have to do. I have an O A long stay visa which of course requires TGIA health insurance. I have a private health insurance but it's not with one of the approved companies. I want to change to O. I have the required funds all year in the bank. I also have a contract for accomodation. How should I go about changing from O A to O? I know that I should exit Thailand WITHOUT re-entry permit so that it voids my O A visa.

You've answered your own question (I assume you are on a 12 month Extension as a Non-OA is multi-entry).

@Graham *****
what should i re-enter on?

Either get a Non-O or a Tourist Visa at a neighbouring country or, if you qualify, Visa Exempt entry

It may be office dependent. Recently someone (an Indian national with a exempt entry) trying to get an extension in Krabi was refused and told to go to Phuket to get their extension of 30 days.
Oleg ***********
Can. Indian citizens if come with tourist visa can get 7 day extension. If come 30 day visa exempt, like in the picture can get 30 days.

@Oleg **********
And Indians on a regular tourist visa or this temporary visa exemption is entitled to a 30 days extension on general conditions. When they arrive on the regular 15 days visa on arrival, they’re only entitled to or get a 7 days extension denied stamp, which is no real extension but just a time to leave the county on same conditions as someone who as an example mistakenly tries to get a second extension on a regular tourist visa or visa exemption.

@Oleg **********
tourist visa is also eligible to get the 30 day extension.
Chom ******
Not to mention that having that 7 day extension denied stamp might not be good for the passport.
Oleg ***********
@Chom *****
only 7 days. You are showing about 30 days stamp/visa exempt. It’s not same thing.

@Oleg **********
if Pattaya immigration told you that, then Pattaya immigrations was wrong. Every immigrations office, also the one in Pattaya, will issue 30 day extension to anyone, also Indians, on a 60 day tourist visa.
Chom ******
@Oleg **********
read the last line under “visa application details”- it clearly says “allows for a stay of upto 60 days, extendable for another 30 days.”

Visa exempt is only 30 days so I am pretty sure that its referring to the tourist visa.
Oleg ***********
In pattaya immigration they only get 7 days. 100%

@Oleg **********
There’s nothing such as a 7 days extension. This is a “extension denied” stamp and you get 7 days to leave the country.
Oleg ***********
@Jan *****************
sure there is.
Graham ******
@Oleg **********
It is not an extension

And now you posted a photo as well and this is a 30 days visa exemption. Says “passed 30” in thai.

Did they arrive with a real visa tourist visa or Visa on arrival or exempt visa. Many get them confused say they arrived with visa but didnt. Will help to get answers. Please check with said friend

@Wayne ********
Doesn’t do any difference at date, as Indians are entitled to visa exemption. Then the regular 15 days visa on arrival is suspended or not an option. So if he’s on a 30 days visa exemption or a 60 days tourist visa, he’s entitled to do one 30 days local extension anyway.
Wayne *********
@Jan *****************
Obviously still confused Indian then as now saying arrived Visa on arrival :)
Jan ******************
@Wayne ********
Yes and not only Indians, this is quite common. But easy to understand for Indians as they normally just have two options; 1) Tourist visa or 2) Visa on arrival. Visa exemption for Indians was just a temporary “promotion”.

@Wayne ********
he says “visa on arrival”
Wayne *********
@Leonard ********
So the answer is they arrived Visa exempt as Jan said VOA is suspended atm so yes can extend the arrival by 30 days at immigration office
Jan ******************
@Leonard ********
Then he means a 30 days visa exemption. This is not a visa but a 30 days free stamp. Indians are back on a 15 days Visa On Arrival (VOA) from the 10th this month.
Jan ******************
Yes, he’s entitled to a 30 days extension on same conditions as everyone else on a tourist visa. The right for Indians to arrive without any visa on visa exemption runs out the 10th this month. So if he’s not on a regular visa, but a 30 days visa exemption, he’s entitled to a 30 days extension anyway.
