Are there any known cases of re-entry permit holders being denied re-entry to Thailand recently?
I am on my 5th yearly visa extension of a 3-month non-immigrant O visa because of retirement and have left Thailand only once for about 6 weeks with a single re-entry permit in 2018. Now I wonder whether it would be smart or not to buy a new re-entry permit together with my next yearly visa extension and then travel a bit outside of Thailand, possibly several times with a multiple re-entry permit, considering that decisions of immigration officers can be quite erratic and illogical...
TLDR : Answer Summary
Concerns about re-entry into Thailand with a re-entry permit are common, especially for expats on yearly extensions. Recent discussions suggest that holders of yearly extensions based on retirement (Non-O visa) generally face no issues returning to Thailand as long as they maintain their extensions. While immigration officers have the final say, experiences shared by long-term expats indicate that as long as permits are in order, re-entry is typically not a problem, even after long durations abroad.
