TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses ongoing rumors about new restrictions on visa rules for Thailand, particularly claims of limiting entries to two 30-day visa on arrivals per year and eliminating the possibility of extensions. Comments clarify that while there are restrictions on visa-exempt entries via land borders, there is no limit for entries by air, and extensions for 30-day visas remain possible. Participants advise caution against unverified rumors and encourage users to seek legitimate sources for any changes in visa regulations.
Will be very hard to get away from rumors. As long so many visitors of Thailand call everything except their beer a Visa. If you do not know what you talking about and you ask a friend with a Visa in the bar, what the best visa is, you get lots of confusion. I would say the best visa is Chang Visa. I think I messed up the words beer and Visa.
I suggest to people - Learn to Recognize RUMORS and Rumor Mongers. Rumors about Visas are usually posted Without a copy of a Thai Government Notice. Often they are nothing more than 'bar talk' ... If it is a drastic change you see posted and there is no Government Notice to be seen - then it is RUMOR ...
If you see a change in Visa Rules and Regs posted - then challenge the person who posted it for a LINK to the source to verify or a copy of the new rules change... Especially if it is something that seems drastic... If the poster cannot produce a document or a Link to a verified source then tell them to STFU
They changed the rules about 30 day visa exempt entry stamps via a land border on Dec 31st,2016. If you are from one of the 44 countries listed you are allowed to make TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year.
You have been able to apply for a 30 day extension of stay on a 30 day visa exempt stamp since August 29, 2014. That hasn't changed at all.
I don't know what you mean about a "visa run" because to me that means you're going to a thai consulate in another country to BUY a visa for thailand.
Here's the list of countries that can ONLY get TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year (Even though malaysia is on the list, they are exempt from it ;) )
