Are there banks in Thailand that allow both partners of a joint account to use separate banking apps?

Hello! Does anyone know of a bank that my husband and I could get a joint account with that would allow us BOTH to use their banking application (using two phone numbers and our own separate phones) and allow us both to have our own QR code without having to get our own separate accounts? We’ve never had separate accounts, so this has been weird to finagle and would like to find a bank that would meet our needs. Thanks so much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster asks about a Thai bank offering a joint account that allows both partners to access the banking app independently on their own devices. The responses mostly indicate that it's currently uncommon for Thai banks to support this feature—typically, only one partner has app access linked to a single phone number, even with a joint account. Suggestions include considering separate accounts with easy transfer options and using browser access instead of the banking app. Overall, the community expresses that achieving the desired setup may be challenging under current regulations.

Get 2 accounts. Transfers are free. What's the problem?
Det *******
Sounds impossible with current Thai banking regulations.

Thank you all so much for your feedback! Have a great weekend 🙏🏽

If you want both to be able to do banking, use a browser instead of the app.

Here a sample.

On the phone you can save a link as a web-app to your Home Screen (at least in iOS).

, does she have her own QR code and such and is able to create her own login credentials on the app that will take her to the same joint account?

if it's possible to each access the same account, with the app, why do you need separate QR codes and credentials? It's the same shared account. It doesn't need a unique QR for each user. It needs a QR to identify the account. Why wouldn't it work for you if it's the same QR and credentials? Any transactions will be on the same account anyway.

, sure that’s fine too, except we haven’t found a bank that’ll allow us to do that because every bank we’ve been to says that a joint account can only access ONE phone number. That’s been the issue. For example, our joint account is linked to my phone number, so my husband doesn’t have any kind of online of phone access to anything having to do with our joint account. I have to send him money from our joint account to his “own” account, and it feels like he’s getting an allowance— which is just silly in 2025. So, I don’t actually care how to access QR codes (haven’t lived here in a few years— still wrapping my head around that bc it wasn’t a thing when we left Bangkok in 2016) or whatever else so long as he has access to everything I have access to using his own phone. That’s the issue.

Why not open 2 joint accounts with the same bank.. then hubby has banking app for the first account.. and wifey has banking app on the second account.. funds can be easily transferred between the accounts using Promptpay or QR codes when needed.. and it should be possible to have 2 atm / debit cards cards on each account.. or simply take 1 card each to match banking apps.. then adjust balances periodically relative to spending.. the big benefit of having joint accounts over single accounts is access following the loss of a spouse.. since accounts won't be frozen pending probate.. and surviving spouse is not cut off from funds.. which could be an important consideration when living overseas!

Good luck opening a bank account first, then try

Well, my girlfriend does not have a joint account (SCB) but when I put the app also on my phone and used here credentials, it worked. They sent an OTP to her phone ofcourse, but then it worked. Only little disadvantage we noticed, was that when I put it on English language, also her app was in English

I'm just curious does your bank in your home country allows that? From where I come from the banks allows joint acct but only one person can acess it.....lets forget about the scan and mobile banking services....only the person that carries the bank book is allowed to do transactions

You can do it in the U.S. My wife and I had a joint account and she had a debit card and so did I and we could both use the app on our phones and do business.

, yes correct. We’ve never had separate accounts and separate apps. We’ve always had one joint account and have had our own access points with our own phones, so this is a bit strange. I also want to acknowledge that I realize that this is a #FirstWorldProblem 😂 however I figured it might be worth a try asking around

same for us, my husband and me, in Switzerland

You can have a joint account but only one person can have access to the app

Thai banks are not part of the service industry. They do what THEY want when they want

and as slow and overcomplicated as they can make it. It's a power trip.

The other commenters are correct. Hubby and I have a joint account with Kasikorn Bank but only one of us can have bank app access on that account.

Best you might get is two debit cards, but one person is the account owner

Don’t think there is any bank out there that will do this anymore. You can have a joint account but only one has access via the app.
