Edit Question answered and reassurances received, Thank You

Hello all

We are less than a week away from arriving, we have just taken delivery of some baht to see us through the first week or so and we have received 2 different design of notes for the 500 baht and 1000 baht

Is this all correct and current?

Thank you for your reassurance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 500 baht and 1000 baht notes you received are valid in Thailand, both the old and new designs featuring different kings. It's also noted that it's better to exchange currency in Thailand for more favorable rates and to ensure that the bills are in good condition, as clean notes are preferred. Additionally, there are legal requirements to carry 20,000 baht (or equivalent) in cash when entering Thailand.

Some advice, go change some of the 1000 baht notes for 100 baht notes, taxis and street sellers rarely have change.

why would you get baht before coming? Theres millions of ATMs, banks, transfer apps, etc. Your money looks real and probably is.
Benjamin ********
I bet one of those guys isn't even the current king. Seems fake

When using tha ATMs be sure to select, “ Continue without conversion”. You will only get charged 220 baht fee. If you do not select this you will pay $30-$40 USD Extra.
John ********
All good
Gary *******
Get a Wise Card and put Thai Baht on it and then you can withdraw and use it in shops. Still have to pay 220 baht to withdraw as Thailand doesn't yet have Wise in their country. If you withdraw using your own country card, press no when it asks if you would like to accept the exchange rate and you'll get closer to market rate rather than what the banks want.

I live in Chiang Rai, and my USA bank gives me free ATM debit card withdrawals which I have found to be the best and simplest method for getting Bahts. I can withdraw $500 per transaction $1000 daily limit so I pull out 17,000 Baht twice and deposit in my Thai bank. Do not take the conversion option as it will cost you about $30 in what you will get without conversion.
Sonja *****
Can be used without any problem.

If you do decide to visit again a golden tip is to follow the signs for the train. This will direct you to the basement of Suvarnabhumi Airport. There are a selection of exchanges offering very good exchange rates.

Enjoy your trip.
Gary ****
It's an immigration requirement to bring in 20,000 baht cash (per person) or equivalent in other currency when entering Thailand. So ignore the naysayers you've actually applied the rules.

equivalent in other currency.

Maybe you should keep a low profile with that much cash.

Unless you want to let everyone know your flight and arrival time also. Feel free.

Those bills are correct and current.

You might as well get exchanged while you are in Thailand. Rates are better and you don’t have to pay fees with your bank to get these notes.

Go to Super Rich exchange counter at the airport which is in the bottom floor.
Chris **********
Btw: some Thai people will love you to pay with old king notes…. He was loved by Thai people
Rob **********
@Chris *********
555 they don’t care what note you use, as long as you pay. Yes he was certainly held in high esteem, and rightly so.
Carlos *********
Oh no!!! You can't use the ones with King 9 on them anymore, but you can give them to me and I can take care of them for ya!!

Just kidding, you're all good. Just a new design.

One tip though, if you are bringing currency to exchange, they seem to be fussy about rips, marks and writing on bills, so bring fresh ones with no markings
Andy **********
I see a lot of comments about changing money in Thailand. Yes, you will mostly get a better rate. Note there are two different SuperRich: SuperRich Thailand and SuperRich 1965. Basically the same rates, but the rate depends on the branch. Best rate is at head office, middle of nowhere in Bangkok. Today's live rate at the airport for UK Sterling is 43.95 if its BoE notes, 42.30 for Scottish notes and nothing for Northern Irish notes. Meanwhile in the UK today's best tourist rate is through Sterling, and is 43.32. So Scottish or Noren Ironers, get English notes or change at home. And if just changing for some get by money, changing £100 at home costs you 63 baht. Which won't get you a coke at the airport. Changing at home often also gets you a buy back rate.
Carlos *********
@Andy *********
there's better rates than only superrich.
Andy **********
@Carlos ********
probably marginally. I'm the end the differences amount to chump change for someone who has flown halfway around the world and spent thousands. If you are so confident of better currency dealers, then mame them rather than carping from the sidelines. Superrich is regularly used as a benchmark and I never said it was the best.
Carl *******
Old and new can still use
Rob **********
Yes both are valid currency in Thailand
Bob **********
Old king and the new king there fine unless counterfeit
John ********
Why did you buy the currency outside Thailand is the bigger question
Carlos *********
@John *******
easy, people travel and have left over. It's smart to come in with thai baht because you will pay much more getting to your hotel without Baht
Tony *********
@John *******
Not all currency exchange places are rorts. I came 2 weeks ago got 1000 Aud worth at 23.34 baht to the dollar which at the time the going rate was 23. 65 baht. Not at the airport either .

plenty available in the airport... Admittedly at a similar terrible rate.

@Martyn **********
the airport rate is fine at super rich down on bottom floor where you get the train. Same as TT in Pattaya or better
Martyn ***********
@Will ***********
your correct but he didn't want to arrive without, so he would be exchanging in the arrivals...? Nowadays there's no bother arriving with no cash to be fair....
Chris ******
@John *******
probably got the worst exchange rate lol
Linz ************

@Chris *****
exchange rate was around 1.6% less than had we changed it in Thailand but we did not want to arrive with nothing hence for the little amount we changed, we were not concerned about the difference

@Linz ***********
if that pic is of the money you exchanged, it looks a hell of a lot more than "a little amount"
