,Don't know for UK but Netherlands is 20 years for using them as usual. After that you can change them in "the Dutch bank" (government institute) eternal.

It was same with 500 euro note, they go out of circulation meaning they don't produce anymore but they are still legal tendor and accepted worldwide

Some places want the new plastic ones, I got slightly less of an exchange rate for the old ones a couple of weeks ago!

Which ever type of UK notes you take with you make sure they are perfect otherwise they will be rejected
