Am I able to apply for a 60-day tourist visa while on vacation in Europe? I’d like to go to Thailand in August or September but don’t want to enter on a 30-day on-arrival, and will not be going back to the States. (U.S. citizen currently in Germany)

Got my multiple entry Non O based on marriage from Ho Chi Minh City , Vietnam. Very easy and very quick. Submitted papers on the 21st April. Copy of my passport, copy of wife's ID card and house book signed by her. Copy of my marriage cert signed by the both of us. I also took the original with me. They wanted to see it. A signed letter from the wife asking the consulate to issue the visa. 1x 60mm x 40mm photo and of course $200. Collected the visa at 13.40 on the 22nd. On both visits to the consulate I only had to wait 15 minutes. The consulate staff are very friendly, but they check everything. No online booking needed.

I am heading back to Chiang Mai CNX tomorrow. Hopefully immigration won't ask me for the onward ticket and funds.

I would especially like to thank Tod Daniels for all of his excellent advice.

Lee Van Willem I moved your question here, this has nothing to do with waiting in line at Cheag Wattana Immigration Office.

Lee Van Willem It seems to be chaos at the moment. I travelled to Laos to get a single entry tourist visa, got in the longest queue I’ve ever seen, went to collect the next day and they just open the window and said declined (despite only having 2 previous tourist visas, and people I knew in the queue having 5,6 and 8.

After forcing the window open, I spoke with a lady who said they refused it as they “suspect” I’m working illegally. So ran our printed off bank statements etc to prove I’m not, came back in and they said ‘come back tomorrow at 1.30”. Went back, and the woman I arranged to meet was no where to be seen, and then after being ignored by a few people managed to cause enough of a scene to summons woman who had lost my passport, and spent the next hour looking for it.

Anyways, I missed my flight and had to spend an extra night in Laos- there seems to be no consistency in what they are doing- who can they refuse one passport with 2 tourist visas, and issue some to people whose passports are full?
