ALL IMMIGRATION OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED

Monday May 5th

If you have a stamp that expires on a day the immigration office is closed (weekends or holidays) and you go the very next day they're open you can get your extension like normal and will not be fined for overstay (you will get an overstay stamp in your passport but it will say "fine waived holiday")

Borders do not close for these holidays

Hello,

I went to Phuket Town Immigration to ask about applying for a Marriage Visa for the first time.

I’m leaving Thailand soon to go back to work and won’t return till October when I will apply for a marriage visa & I wanted to make sure I understood everything correctly.

I was hoping I could get something cleared up please about the length of time funds needed to be in your bank account.

Is it correct that when you apply for your marriage visa the first time you need 400,000baht in the bank only 1 day before you apply?

And then when you apply for your 1 year extension for 3 months later you need to keep 400,000 baht all that time up to the extension date?

(Which makes sense to me)

The part that I’m not sure about is that I was told by the kind officer that after you get the extension you need to keep the 400,000baht in you bank account for 2 months after the start date of your 1 year extension.

I thought and I could well be wrong with a marriage visa that as soon as you got the 1 year extension that you could take the 400,000baht out of your bank account if you wanted too.

I thought it was just for retirement type visas extensions that you had too leave the funds for 2 months after you get the extension.

I likely will leave the funds in my bank account all year long anyway but I just wanted to understand better in case I needed to access the funds in an emergency when I would be able too, and when I could do so without jeopardising my Marriage visa extension.

Thanks in Advance 🙏

Probably a dumb question please be kind. If you have DTV on remote work and you switch companies (still working remotely), do you need to get a new DTV? Or you can just report the change? Thanks in advance.

Question for married couples from the USA who use their marriage certificate for "trailing spouse" visa/extension purposes:

Have you successfully extended the stay of the trailing spouse (after 29-Feb-2024) at Hua Hin immigration using an original marriage certificate from the USA without any authentication documents from the state/commonwealth, Department of State, and Royal Thai Embassy?

For background, we applied for our original visas using the marriage certificate that we received when we originally got married, which was a "true and correct copy" signed by the county recorder with an embossed seal but which did not have any attached authentication documents. We also used that original copy for our first trailing spouse extension. However, after reading about a possible need for authenticated documents, we decided to pay an apostille to request another copy of our marriage certificate and obtain all the authentications that were required at that time from the state and federal authorities and with an additional authentication stamp provided by the Royal Thai Embassy. We were told that the authenticated documents would be valid for 3 years, and we have used them twice for trailing spouse extensions. However, based on Immigration Order No. 0029.154/1491 dated February 24, 2024, we are wondering if we will be able to go back to using the original copy of our marriage certificate that we received when we got married, which has no attached authentication documents.

Since we have presented two different marriage certificates at Hua Hin immigration that look quite different from one another, both of which were issued by a competent authority in the state in which we were married, but only one of which is attached to authentication documents, we are wondering if using the original copy will create confusion.

I got married in December. I was on a 90 day O-visa. I want to be able to go to Thailand for 6months every year and spend 6 months back in USA. What's the best option for me? I was thinking marriage visa, is this my best option?

My family’s passports were damaged so we had to replace them all. I’m taking the new passports to immigration to get our visa stamps. I have a police report stating the cause of damage, and letters from our embassies requesting new visa/entrance stamps. Do I need to take anything else?

Ok. So as you all know immigration offices are closed until Thursday 17th. For many offices they will be absolutely chaotic on Thursday. If you can avoid going to immigration on that day then please do so.

If your entry stamp or extension finishes between now and then, then go on the 17th and be prepared to wait for a long time. You won’t be fined because of closure but will get an overstay stamp.

Friday will probably be crazy too because of the fallout of the 5 day closure.

Going to immigration early is usually a good idea for most extensions but this week if you really don’t need to go then just don’t.

If your extension or entry stamp is after the 20th then just do everyone a favour and avoid immigration.

I have no idea on the policies for all the immigration offices, but you may well find that some will turn you away if you don’t need immediate services.

Recently married to my Thai partner...🙏. Registered etc in Thailand.👍

Looking at a Partner Visa to Australia, she has been twice on a tourist visa but I feel she is not ready for settling here, Australia is not good, will miss her family, food, culture etc (she is 44)... I want out, plus the process is fkn expensive.

I feel it is better that I move over there (I'm 54). Work in Western Australia, mining (for years) and feel that I'm better to continue this from a financial perspective. What is my best option? What is the best visa I should go for? I would need, probably need 1 month work in Australia, 1 month in Thailand...and that good vary....could be 3 weeks of work, 6 weeks in Thailand...

Look forward to anyone who does this, has experience in this situation...🙏
