hello all, thanks for adding me. We are a family of 4 from Canada who have been travellling for the past 5 months. We have had a very easy time of it so far with visas but find ourselves in a conundrum with Thailand as we didn't realize the strictures on the 60 day visa (ie. we can't apply for it outside our home country, as we had planned to do). We are currently in Sri Lanka and have a flight to BKK in less than 2 weeks.

So - my questions are:

1. can we come into thailand on a 30 day visa and extend it relatively easily in-country (we have seen both yes and no as an answer elsewhere). We would be applying for the extension in Krabi, which is our first stop.

1. if yes, we CAN renew relatively easily while in-country, will we need to show an outbound flight on arrival that is leaving the country by the 30 day mark? Or, can we enter with a flight that leaves by the 60 day mark and explain that we plan to renew/extend while in the country?

1. do we need to arrive at BKK with with printed photos for the 30 day visa on-arrival or not? we have read that yes, we need them, and no, we don't.

What say you - wise travellers?

Many thanks,

v.

Anders Lassen asked in another thread;

I’m coming to Thailand beginning of dec. with my family. Can we just get a Visa exempt entry on arrival.

Is there any conditions to get this.

We plan to leave to Cambodia by land some 25 days after entry and come back to Thailand three month later for a week or two before going back to Denmark.

Thx in advance

I will be traveling to Vietnam on August 18 and have an evisa for 30 days. I then plan to travel to Thailand where I have a Thai wife and 12 year old son. Will I be able to apply for a Non-immigrant O visa at the Thai Consulate in Saigon?

We are coming into Thailand for the 3rd time since October on a 30/day visa exempt (USA passport). Since it’s our 3rd visa-exempt entry, making sure we have all the T’s crossed. We are in Seoul right now, taking out Korean Won to the equivalent of 40,000 baht for our family of 4. Will need to exchange at least some into baht at the airport to pay for taxi, but assuming it’s a bad idea to exchange it all at the airport at once? We don’t normally exchange $, and use ATMs in the countries we visit, so not the most experienced getting the best rates.

Melanie Maddock posted this in a different thread

Please excuse my question, to clarify, is 20,000 cash requirement the same regardless whether you're doing a land crossing or airport? And regardless whether you have visa.

So we are doing our border run to Mae Sai as a family, all of us holding METV so we will need to show 40,000 for our family right? Many thanks

Hi all, my daughter, boyfriend and their daughter (then 1 year and 6 months) come to visit me in a couple of months. All Dutch so enter with no visa on 30 days exempt entry. Hotelbooking for 2 or 3 nights in BKK and their flight back home is no problem. Only on holiday 2-3 weeks. You think it's wise that they also have cash (2x about 600€ ?) with them ? First time Thailand ever.

Thanks !!
