I am a South African and my son is 16. May I travel from Cambodia (where I currently live) to Bangkok in December with my son or do I need a document from my husband consenting to such travel? My husband can only join us later in December hence my question TIA.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A South African expat in Cambodia is inquiring whether they need a consent document from their husband to travel with their 16-year-old son to Bangkok in December. Responses from the community indicate that having the same family name might reduce complications, and personal experiences suggest that notarized letters are often unnecessary.

I traveled all over Asia with my son (we have different last names) without a problem. I was actually a little irritated that no one asks who the minor traveling with you is 😅

Do you have same family name. If so it shouldnt be an issue.

I used to carry notarised letter from ex wife giving permission but never had to use it
