Will renewing my parent visa in Thailand be as difficult as the first application?

Hey guys, I'm here in Thailand on my first parent visa and it was so difficult to get. They came to my place and took photos with my son and everything.

Can you tell me will it be so difficult again or will I just need to apply this time?

Just considering my options.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for renewing a parent visa in Thailand might be similar to the first application, according to community feedback. Users suggest that while you may face similar requirements (new bank letters and updated photos), it could be easier than the initial process, especially if you have not moved. Home visits from immigration might still occur, but they often involve standard procedures without hassle. Members noted that extensions for long-term stays generally require reapplying every year, and opinions varied on the level of difficulty compared to other countries.

Thailand makes it really , really hard for people staying long-term. Is this just an Asian thing? Central and South American countries make it a lot easier and without any hassles!

Yes mate that is pretty standard procedure and as
@Kool ******
has said same again next year.

It is the same for most Non O Visa's they will normally visit and ask questions and meet neighbours etc it is usually no hassles.

I had a visit for my Non O based on Retirement.

thanks for the info.

I assume you're on an extension of stay rather than a visa? Every year is a new extension so you will likely have to go through the same process

not sure the difference since it's my first. I have a year due in Jan. I came during covid so it's all a mess and I'm super confused.

@Jaymie *******
I don't think you do but you do need cooperation from your son (and possibly thereby the mother). How old is your son?

I just took this from another group. The guy that posted it, tod Daniels, really knows his stuff. I thought you'd find it useful

1 - you can indeed get a 60 day visit thai family extension without proof of funds with just your name on the birth certificate and documentation from the thai mother

unfortunately unless you have been granted legal parental rights by the decree from family court, OR your child is over 7 and you were able to get the parental rights granted at your local Amphur (City Hall) you can't get a year extension based on being the parent of a thai child. Even if your name is on the birth certificate, and/or your child has a passport from your country without the family court or amphur decree of granting legal parental rights you can't get a year extension

Ah yes. I did go to court as I was told I had to do it. But was a little confused on what that gave me. So it sounds like that gives me parental rights. Good to know.

I really appreciate your help on this one. I'm slowly piecing the puzzle together.

@Jaymie *******
I assume you're on the Thai birth certificate.so as long as he is your dependant you should be fine

sounds like you've just been on Covid extensions until now and have just got a 90 day Non-O visa? When you apply for your annual extension in January you will have to do it all again

so I had a year visa non o when I came here then couldn't leave after 90 days so I did covid visa till I could get my current visa. Then got a 1 year visa that I just need to do 90 day reporting on but don't have to leave the country. Now it's due in Jan. It was a difficult process so I'm not sure if I should look at other options and since the mother is hard to deal with.

Trying to work out if I have to be living with the mother or my son because the lawyer said I don't buyt I'm not so sure. Do you have any idea?

I hope you saved copies of all the documents, and if you haven't moved, everything will be the same except you need new bank letters, and all new pictures. They might, and might not visit you next year. With kids it is hard to say. As it is now you're set for the year. Next year should be much easier.

ok thanks very much. I did move so trying to work it out. Lately I'm also confused on if I'm meant to be living with the Mother of my child. I'm hearing different info on this.

as long as you have a lease, copy of the owner's Thai ID card and a copy of the house book they are in, and they filed a TM30 that you are living there, there shouldn't be any problem in that respect.
