TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about renewing a NON-O visa that expired due to COVID-19, noting they are the legal father of a Thai child and previously held the visa. They seek guidance on whether the renewal process will be easier since their initial application is in the system, and additionally share plans to come to Thailand on a tourist visa before attempting to renew their NON-O visa.

@Dava *******
then please check back next March for the updated entry requirements to Thailand.

With COVID times all is subject to change.

You can enter Thailand either visa exempt or with tourist visa as you plan. With added opportunity to get a 60 days family visit extension of stay.

As you have had the Non O visa before you just need to ask your local immigration office what their requirements are at the time you are in Thailand.

What visa if any are you now on in Thailand?

I assume you are now in Thailand. And not married to a Thai.

But are the legal father of Thai child with name on Thai birth certificate.

Have you obtained your legal rights by recording the birth of your Thai child at the local Amphur?
