Will my retirement extension of stay be canceled if I receive a temporary work permit in Thailand?

I have an extension of stay based on retirement. I have been asked to assist on a job for approximately 3 weeks in the south of Thailand. Due to the covid situation they cannot get personnel into the country easily and in time. The company will apply for a temporary work permit for me to cover this work period. My concern is will my extension of stay be cancelled upon temporary WP being issued?

I know if i were applying for a full time WP it would be cancelled so i assume it may be same for TWP but need to confirm ASAP.

I believe immigration is closed for for a day or so and would appreciate any relevant info anyone may have. Please do not comment if you dont know. Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual seeks clarity on whether their extension of stay based on retirement will be canceled upon receiving a temporary work permit for a short job in Thailand. Responses indicate that employment is generally forbidden under a retirement extension, but there are nuances depending on different types of extensions and circumstances. Concerns are raised about the legality of work activity without a proper work permit, emphasizing the importance of understanding specific visa regulations.

I'm going to shut down this post. Different extension of stays allow people to perform different activities in Thailand. Some extension of stays allow the holder having a work permit, some don't.

It's also important to say exactly what type of extension of stay a person has. For example, saying that a person has an extension of stay based on raising a child is worthless. On the other hand, saying a person has an extension of stay based on raising a half-Thai child (where the child has a Thai passport, but the foreign parent does not) is different the raising a foreign child (where the child and both parents do not have a Thai passport). Some ext

Anyone who generates any type of economic activity in Thailand must have a work permit before performing any type of work, otherwise, it's illegal, and you could be fined and deported if caught.

I can't see the reason to keep commenting open. If anyone disagrees, send a mod a message.

I have an extension of stay based on my child and was given a TWP... so it is possible.

My TWP is valid for 6 months and I have just renewed my extension of stay also so it is possible.

I don’t know if the company I’m going to be working for had any influence on this.

But for someone who does not plan to stay long in Thailand, and is in the country for specific reasons or short business engagements (like attending a seminar or meeting, or purchasing items for export) and who will not be working for a registered Thai company, need to obtain the WP.11 kind of work permit. The WP.11 is sometimes referred to as a “temporary work permit”, in actuality it has to do with the kind of work being done. The WP.11 Work Permit is issued to foreigners who are engaged in “work which is of necessity or urgent” and for a short period. This “necessary and urgent work” is broken into 6 categories and defined by the Department of Employment under the Working of Aliens Act B.E. 2551

you are confusing what can and can't be done on two different types of extensions 😕

Extensions based on raising a half thai child and on marriage to a thai CAN hold work permits. Extensions based on retirement, raising foreign children and being married to a foreigner working here CANNOT hold work permits

I have a related question.

Is it possible to assist on a voluntary basis i.e. no contract, no salary, no commitment, just help out now and again without endangering a retirement visa?
Lloyd ********
not possible, that would be classed as working

>I have an extension of stay based on retirement.

Employment is forbidden, and you can not get a work permit if you have this extension of stay.
