Hello everyone. Can I switch from a extension of stay based on to retirement back to a extension of stay based on marriage? I originally came to Thailand on a non o visa based on marriage 5 years ago. Last year immigration convinced me to change my extension of stay based on retirement. This year I want to go back to a extension of stay based on marriage. Is this possible?

If so can I use my monthly income of 40k deposited into my bank to meet the financial requirements?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is asking about switching their extension of stay in Thailand from one based on retirement back to one based on marriage. They initially entered Thailand on a non-O visa based on marriage and later switched to a retirement extension after being advised by immigration. They inquire if they can revert to a marriage-based extension and whether their monthly income of 40,000 THB deposited into their bank can meet the financial requirements. Comments provide guidance on eligibility, necessary documentation, and the implications of changing visa types.

Maybe the post you read was concerning O-A??? I'm not a pro but I do read here a lot. Hopefully the pro's will correct me if I miss speak. If I remember correctly for an O-A you have to "Break" it by leaving the country, that wouldn't apply to your case. Sorry if I miss stepped.

, could be. I'm not a pro either, but you can change the reason for extension from retirement to marriage without problem even if your retirement extension has started with Non-OA entry, when you already applied for an extension based on retirement at least once.

You need to leave Thailand to 'break the chain' if you want to use the requirements for Non-O retirement when your extension is continued from Non-OA entry. You mean this part.

I changed my extension type last year from marriage (basis of my original non o visa) to retirement. This was at Samut Prakan IO. I asked at the time if it would be possible later to change the reason for extension to marriage, and they said yes.

It is worth noting that they will cancel your previous extension when you change the reason, and reset the extension date to the date of application. My original extension expired in November and after changing it now expires in September, so don't go too early to make the new application.

is right (y) changing the reason for the extension, retirement to marriage, marriage to retirement always starts the new extension the date you apply, it is not added to your current expiration date so you lose any days you have left on the current extension when you do a new one for a different reason

IF you used your banked money method last year, you still need to keep your bank balance as it specified until your next extension is approved.

If you use the monthly transfer method, make sure all your records show as international transfers.

Are you still Married to your Thai wife and Living together?

Ask your Thai immigration office ... about changing the reason for extension of stay

BUT do you have 400,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name only?

Or..

Do you have 12 monthly receipts showing the 40,000 Thai baht deposits into your Thai bank account in your name only?

What is your home country?

Does it still provide an affidavit of income for your annual income?

yes we have both been living together for 6 years now and we are still married.

I have transferred 40k baht a months using Wise for over 12 months now.

I was concerned because I read another post about someone changing from a retirement extension to a marriage extension. They said that person had to go to a Thai embassy out of the country to get a non o based on marriage first. But I don't know if I would have to do that since I first came to thailand on a non o based of marriage.

My extension based of retirement is up on the 28th of this month and I want to be prepared in case something comes up.

I am a US citizen

Visit your local Thai immigration office With your Thai wife...

...and ask for the list of requirements for the one year extension of stay as Married to Thai.

IF you are now on a One year extension of stay as retired...

Then you're changing the reason for the One year extension of stay from being retired to marriage to Thai.
