I'm just curious, as my school is putting together the paperwork for me to travel to Laos. I have a postgraduate diploma from the University of Cape Town, and I've heard conflicting reports about whether the Thai consulate will recognize it. A postgraduate diploma is higher than a degree or a btech. degree is a nqf 7 and a postgraduate diploma is nqf 8 respectively. Bangkok is where I am from South Africa. I simply needed to know how it went because I had heard that individuals with a background in btech were granted a non-B visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether their postgraduate diploma from the University of Cape Town will be recognized by the Thai consulate for a non-B visa, especially as they have heard differing opinions on the matter. Several comments suggest consulting the embassy directly for the most accurate and updated information regarding the recognition of qualifications. It is also noted that South African passport holders must go to Vientiane for visa applications, not Savannakhet.

In case you are not aware

South African passport holders cannot apply for any visa in Savannakhet, you must go to Vientiane.

You must make an appointment before you can even get into Vientiane.

Read the requirements. The list is pretty extensive.

If it doesn't say DEGREE at the top, chances are slim they will accept it,

I've seen someone with a doctorate struggle, because it doesn't say BACHELORS DEGREE at the top.

I am curious as to why you do not check with the appropriate Embassy so you can get the correct answer.

Enquire at the source (Embassy / Consulate), regarding recognition of your qualifications for the definitive answer.

Talk to the embassy in your country. The rules change by the day.
