I opened a bank account in 2017 on krungthai bank (on ED visa at the time)

Now im on DTV

I got a text message from the bank about CRS (common reporting standard) and coming to the branch to do a check

im not concerned about this operation in particular, however ive been very reluctant to go to the bank for anything in case they decide to close my account.

Has anyone been in this situation with this bank? do they close your account if you show up for anything there?
Answer summary
The conversation discusses concerns regarding Krungthai Bank's request for account verification under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS). Users share mixed experiences—some report account freeze or closure when visiting the bank, particularly if they hold certain visa types like the ED visa or DTV visa. Others indicate that as long as the visa status is valid, it should not affect bank account access. Participants suggest taking precautions, like withdrawing funds if traveling to the bank is difficult, to avoid complications.

Yes and they closed my account. Payap opened it for me years ago when I was on ED visa. I never got my money back either.

I never would've thought they would keep the money tho, that's really messed up. Which branch?

i honestly don’t know what branch because they opened accounts for us at a student orientation meeting for Payap University when k studied there. It wasn’t a lot of money, maybe like 2-300 US dollars. And the account had been otherwise inactive for 4 years. But I assumed having the cash in there would keep it open. I moved back last year only to find out it was closed when I asked the branch at central festival.

I also had my Bangkok bank account closed too but I understand that one because someone else had opened it for me almost 15 years ago and used their phone number

I got a notification from the Blue Bank on my application saying something similar. Since I have already emptied out the account for obvious reasons and left about 1000 thb I dont really care. However I contacted my manager there and he said it was nothing to worry about, he knows my visa situation.

Same thing happened to me a couple of months back. I have had my bank for about 10 years and received an email asking me to verify my status in branch. Popped in with my documents and passport, system was updated and was free to leave. No problem.

If the bank where you opened is far away from you, please withdraw or transfer your money ASAP.

I opened my account in Chiang Mai 4 years ago, they froze my account I went to many banks in Bkk they said you can only get your money from the bank you opened your account and I had to fly back to Chiang Mai.

Bkk bank

So the money that would be in that account goes where? Say there was a decent amount in the account

they give you cash back. A few hundred million baht is doable - not right away, but with a separate appointment

Visa status doesn’t effect your bank account as long as the status is valid.

ProductiveTangerine5669 wrong you can’t have a bank account on a tourist visa

No one gonna hold ED visa for the whole life, so as long as your visa is valid( it doesn’t matter what type of visa you currently hold) it does not effect your bank account. Mind was like this either.
