Will having a history of ED Visas affect my DTV application in Thailand?

Apr 10, 2026
I've been reading about people getting rejected and thinking it's due to previous ED Visas.

I've had 2 ED Visas back to back like 7/8 years ago, then switched to Non-B with regular work permit until now.

Do you think this would be a "bad visa history" to try getting the DTV? (Never overstayed, 90 days reports always submitted on time, etc)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user expresses concern about their previous Educational (ED) Visas impacting their current application for a Digital Visa (DTV) in Thailand. They have a history of two back-to-back ED Visas from many years ago and are currently on a Non-B visa with a work permit. Responses from the community indicate mixed opinions, with some asserting that older ED Visas should not affect the application negatively, while others highlight a recent crackdown on problematic ED visas and suggest using a visa agent for guidance. Overall, the community shares experiences suggesting that not all ED Visa holders face issues with DTV applications.

I have serious questions as to whether it really was the fact that they'd been on an Ed Visa, in these cases. After all, plenty of people are saying they were on Ed visas for a year or two, and then had no problem getting a DTV.

Or was it due to where the Ed visa came from?

We know that they've been getting more pro-active at investigating "schools" that are issuing Ed visas but not actually holding classes, or keeping attendance and shutting them down. In such cases, all Ed visas connected with those "schools" have been cancelled, usually without informing the holders, resulting in them going on Overstay.

I have a hypothesis that, in at least some of these cases, it was noticed that their previous Ed visas came from a school that was later deemed to be dodgy.

Anonymous participant 924 You appear to be suggesting that anyone who previously held an ED Visa might have their DTV application rejected. Did Chat GPT tell you that?

he's not scaremongering... it really happened to over 10,000 Ed Visa holders. Many were not aware of their Ed Visa being canceled by Thai Immigration. And were on OVERSTAY from the date Thai Immigration cancelled the 10,000 Ed Visas. As a result some were on OVERSTAY for 90+ days and were banned 🚫 from Thailand for One year.

I had a bunch of recent ed visas, including one directly before and was approved a couple of months ago. I don't think it's an issue. Your extremely old ones definitely won't be an issue

If you are a genuine prospective DTV applicant and nervous about the possibility of rejection then employing a visa agent would surely serve to relieve your anxiety. Everyones circumstances differ. An agent would have relevant and recent experience. Canvassing opinion here will only serve to send yourself and others in circles which I'm sure you would wish to avoid.

I just wanted to know direct experiences. I don't really want to go the agent route, as most of the work we have to do it ourselves getting the documents ready, and this page helps with getting it done ourselves I guess. It seems like wasted money to me

Anonymous participant how is it a waste of money if the agent refunds most or all of the agent fee if DTV visa is not issued ?
