Currently on an Education visa, which expires beginning of June. Planning to go to my home country for 3 weeks and apply for the DTV there and come back end of June. How likely am i to encounter probablems when entering Thailand due to my history of multiple tourist entries and then ED visa? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The likelihood of facing issues upon re-entering Thailand after applying for a DTV from your home country while on an ED visa appears to be low, based on community input. Many users reported no issues transitioning from an ED visa to a DTV, suggesting that previous visa history can be viewed positively by immigration officers. However, it is important to officially cancel your ED visa before leaving Thailand, although many noted that a single-entry ED visa automatically cancels upon departure. Overall, collective experiences indicate that as long as the proper steps are taken, re-entry should be straightforward.

I had no issues getting my DTV after an ED visa. I guess previous visas without any issues might even be a plus in their eyes?

As mentioned, don’t forget to cancel your ED before leaving.

Your school should provide a letter dated less than one week from your ticket out.

Head to immigration office. Cancel visa. It’s free.

You’re good to go.

ED auto-cancels on exit… the normal ed with a privatr school that most people used.

I am in the same situation, and I suspect many others as well. I haven’t seen many posts about people getting issues because of that so in general I think it’s fine. But as always it’s up to the IO.

Remember you need to cancel your ED visa before leaving. Nobody told me this it came up by accident when I wash talking with my teacher and told Im leaving early. No cost for me to cancel it

most ED are with private schools. that means single entry. so it will be automatically canceled when you leave the country without a re-entry permit. so you would need to do nothing… only when you have a multiple entry ed with a university

i had single entry ED with private school (plc, pattaya klang). Needed to cancel the visa with them before leaving. What do you mean?

your ED gets automatically canceled once you leave the country. there is no interaction with school or officials / immigration needed to cancel it. thats how it works with these single entry ed. its not necessary, even if you did it…. the officer at the airport might ask you to make sure your visa will be canceled ;)

no, I was actually told by the immigration i have to cancel it. If not, it can be made at the airport etc but it might get me late from my flight, because its not just stamp out, its paperwork with school

you dont need to do anything anywhere. like i said, it will automatically get canceled as its single entry. just exit through immigration and it will get stamped out. i was in the same situation with my ED last year. no paperwork needed. school then just wanted to see my exit stamp so that they could start the process for the next ED on the same day 😅

yes i agree it makes no sense you would have to cancel visa to go home, makes absolutely no sense. Like, they would deny your exit? Nonsense. But, this is what they told me, I know, makes no sense

they just send you the very official way, which surely works :) i think in the end it only matters whats in their systems and not really stamped in a passport.
