Hey everyone! I need a quick tip about my one-year Non-Immigrant ED visa for Thailand. It’s set to expire next month, and I’m planning to leave the country the day before it ends. After about 10 days, I’ll need to come back for a short visit, and I was thinking of using the 60-day visa exemption on arrival.
Someone told me that even though my Non-ED visa will already have expired by the time I return, I still need to request its cancellation. Does anyone have firsthand experience? Is it really necessary? I’d like to avoid any extra bureaucracy!
Any advice or insights would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the necessity of canceling their one-year Non-Immigrant ED visa for Thailand before departing the country, given its impending expiration. Responses indicate that, while it may not be required for a standard Non-ED visa, if the user has a 1-year extension, it is crucial to cancel the visa before leaving to avoid potential fines or complications upon re-entry. Proper documentation from the affiliated school is also needed for this cancellation.
Yes, it is really necessary to cancel it BEFORE you leave. It can land you in trouble later if you dont. Worst case would be a maximum overstay fine up to 20K, from the date it expires. And they might make you cancel it later even though it's already expired. To close the loop. That in itself could be a nuisance, because you need paperwork from the school and you can only do it at the immigration that issued the extension.
if you are still on the 90-days Non-ED visa, you don't need to cancel. However if you are already on the 1-year Non-ED Extension of the Stay Permit, you need to cancel it on Immigration with the paperwork from your school saying that you finish on this or that date
