Will Emirates Allow Boarding with a One-Way Ticket if I Have a Thai Multi-Entry Visa?

Appreciate some knowledge here. I bought a one way flight from the UK to BKK with Emirates and plan to get a 6 month multi entry visa. I am then going to book an onward ticket to KL for probably about 10-11 weeks after I land. So, I will claim the multi entry visa gives me 2 months, then will get 30 day extension at Promenada Mall in Chiang Mai, then will go to KL. Question is will Emirates care that my onward travel is almost three months later? In UK, airline ground staff may not understand nuance. Or is this all fine and I’m sweating the small (again). Thanks all..

TLDR : Answer Summary
The traveler is concerned about boarding an Emirates flight to Bangkok with a one-way ticket after obtaining a multi-entry visa for Thailand. Although airline policies can vary, the consensus from various comments suggests that having a valid visa may suffice to board the flight without the need for an onward ticket. However, there are mixed experiences regarding how rigorously airline staff enforce these policies, indicating that nuances in visa status may not be fully understood by all staff.

Thanks everyone for useful feedback I think we have a reasonable consensus now. Will turn off commenting and mark this one: problem solved.

I found that the single ticket with Emirates was 420 and a return 479. If you buy the return and cancel the return you get back 70pds after the carriers fees.

Thanks that does sound sensible but Emirates told me onward flight also needed. Sounds like a grey area..

I don't think you'll have any problem. Airlines should only ask for proof onward travel if you don't have a visa.

I've never used it but there are several onward ticket rental companies.

It depends on the airline's policy. Emirates does ask. I was asked at Heathrow (UK). I was first asked if i had a visa and then when I said I didnt, they wanted to see a onward flight. I was informed it would of been fine if I had the visa. I assume if you already have the metv you'll be fine - provided what the airline staff informed me, is correct.

no probs will have Visa and onward flight. This stuff is always random different day different people different decision

I see. So their policy reserves the right to restrict even with a visa, when their is no onwards flight. Sorry, I'm not sure then. I can only say that my experience was a little different from what you was told, as that individual ground staff member was prepared to let me on the plane with just a visa only (no onward flight needed). Maybe I would of just been lucky, if i had had the visa. My onward flight was also within 30 days. Sorry, not much help.

I did and they said their policy is to reserve right to boarding without ticket. It’s whether they know I can legally stay in Thailand for 3 months (this implies I will have to get 30 day extension) but will they understand the nuance?
Rik ********
From what the member of staff told me the metv or a setv by itself, would be fine. That said, airport staff never fill me with confidence. It might be worth calling their customer service, just to double check. Good luck.

Thanks Rik, this is what I thought. I will have MEV in my passport and an onward flight. The nub of the Q is whether Emirates groundstaff understand nuance of Thai visas. I think it will be fine....

Why don't you just get a multi entry visa before you come to thailand

Getting multi entry visa in London

If you have a multi-entry visa, that will be valid for six months. You can leave and enter Thailand as many times as you like with that visa up until the validity ends and you will get a 60 stamp each time you enter the country. That means that if you enter right at the end of the validity you will get another 60 days from that date.

Single entry visa is just that, one entry of 60 days and then you need to either extend that, or go get another one.

@Biff ******
yes the multi entry visa gives 60 days initially, then you can extend domestically. But that’s not part of the question I asked. But thanks all the same. Happy Sunday
Biff *******
Which is why I commented in the first place. You said that the Multi-entry visa would give you 60 days and then you were going to extend it. But you don't need to as it's a multi-entry.

Anyway, boarding the plane with a visa is fine. It's only without a visa that you need a return, or onward ticket in the 30 day period that you would get stamped in for without a visa.

@Biff ******
this is true
Biff *******
Well, that's the only place you can get one. You can't get one after you arrive in Thailand. You need to get it before you travel.

I’m in the UK now. Cheers buddy

You said you're getting a multi-entry visa didn't you? You can only get one of those in your country of residence.

Thanks Biff but this info does not relate to question. Cheers

I boarded in Manchester on a SETV (60 days) with just a one way ticket

I got questioned by Immigration as to why I was here though. Although after I told them I just walked through

From what I gather this is a random risk: some airlines do not ask, others have policy which can prevent boarding
