TLDR : Answer Summary
Many travelers discussed the possibility of flying to Thailand on a one-way ticket with Emirates, particularly under a TR visa. While some individuals reported that they were asked for proof of onward or return travel at check-in, others mentioned that they had successfully traveled with a one-way ticket without issues. Recommendations included booking a refundable ticket or a cheap bus ticket as proof of onward travel. There was a consensus that airline policies may vary, and it is generally safer to have some evidence of onward travel to avoid potential boarding issues.

Friend had a sudden credit card problem flying from Phnom Penh on PG. I had to book him a outbound flight on my mobile or he would have missed his flight!

Seems Europe and MidEast airlines are more strict flying from Japan TPE, Korea, SIN I have only been asked a few times. At most had to sign a statement that I am responsible for repatriation cost if denied entry (obvious).
I have flown to Thailand on one-way tickets dozens of times. Thai immigration never asked, more that 23 years.

Just booked tickets chiang mai to luang prabang within the 45 days, £50 quid a piece as our return flight is after 110 days but we're returning back from Bangkok. The airline will not allow you to board without an onward flight.
Lots of cheap tickets about. EZ until! 😎

The TR eVisa app will require you to have a DEPARTURE ticket. However, I got in with a one-way ticket. I just bought a round trip ticket to get the confirmation email for the app and then cancelled it within 24 hrs. I WAS NOT ASKED FOR MY DEPARTURE TICKET AT IMMIGRATION AND THE SIGN SAYS PRESENT PASSPORT, EVISA AND BOARDING PASS. NO DEPARTURE TICKET. You only need to present departure ticket if you arrive visa on arrival, possibly visa exempt. Some have said the airline asks for it but they should not care because they are not immigration. American Airlines / Cathay did not ask for it. Cathay did ask for my vaccination record but I think that requirement is going away.
the airline cares more than immigration. It's a Thai government requirement so the airline enforces it like the other requirements. Immigration only asks if they're looking for a reason to deny you entry, because it is in fact a requirement for entry.

U Can also Book a cheap flight go to Da Nang Vietnam 100$ go and Come back
Yeah but why have a dummy ticket that you loose money on when you can order a real verifiable bus ticket on 12goAsia for the same price and get 50-100% refund once you're in Thailand
they're ultimately responsible should immigration in Thailand stop you from entering. Some airlines are stricter with onward departures than others but just saying you're leaving overland might not work.

The person next to me at check in at Heathrow was asked to show a flight leaving Thailand as he had only booked one way with Emirates. Don't know how it got resolved as I finished checking in before he did.
correct, if he didn't have a non-immigrant visa then he would be asked, that being said I know of someone who has a work permit who the airline in PH refused to let board until she bought a flight out of TH at check in. In that scenario, the check in in PH were wrong and she should've stood her ground and refused.
