I live in Thailand in rented apartments, having to travel to Ho Chi Minh to submit the DTV application online - to prove the current location in Vietnam am I right in thinking an entry stamp to Vietnam will suffice or perhaps a hotel stay confirmation ? 

Also how long is it taking roughly for the visa to be approved ? 

Any help is much appreciated

yes Wednesday and got visa 20 minutes before land at 17.00 in cnx

entry stamp to vietnam and your hotel booking will work for proof you're there

consulates there have said they're doing 5 working day processing time,

So I'd plan at least that long 🙂

I’m staying at my friends apartment is there a way to show proof of staying there or need a hotel ?

You provide your friend address and some form of their ID. You do not need to stay at a hotel.
