TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is qualified to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) based on their age, financial status, and income sources. However, some comments suggest exploring alternative options like the LTR Visa or Retirement Visa, citing their potential advantages, such as lower restrictions and longer validity. Conversations highlight the evolving regulations surrounding the DTV and recommend reviewing current requirements and experiences from other applicants.

If you wish to continue trading from inside Thailand the DTV is about your only legal option.

Anonymous participant you misunderstand. It's other people you need to worry about. You just need to piss someone off, or they get jealous or whatever, and a quick call to the police or immigration and you have a problem.

It doesn't matter. It's possible to work online on any visa. What matters most is what visa is most appropriate for his situation.

Don't be ridiculous. A DTV is a non-work authorized visa. It has the same "employment prohibited" restriction as tourist visas or retirement visas. In practice ALL of these visas allow you to work remotely for non-Thai based entities. Stock trading is about the same "work" as opening your banking app or internet banking anyway.

LTR if you are concerned about tax liability.

I would recommend you look into LTR visa. If you have the funds to qualify for that, it is your best option.

I was torn between Retirement visa and DTV and thought DTV sounded great. And it is for certain things because it is cheap, lasts 5 years, and easy to qualify for. But the negative is that it is still a tourist visa and one thing that has hit me recently is Bangkok Bank closing bank accounts. Some people say a bank account isn't needed but it sure makes life easier. One could argue that a cell phone also isn't needed but who wants to live without one??

Some might suggest retirement visas but lately I have been looking more into the LTR retirement visa or LTR for wealthy global citizens. I am leaning towards switching from DTV to LTR at this time

If you can get the LTR it is a much better visa than both DTV and Retirement O. There is a 10 year Retirement O-X too but I do not know much about that.

Clever. Plus, the DTV is still new, and the government that pushed it has just collapsed. Retirement or other alternatives are more stable and predictable for now.

Go for a retirement visa. The DTV is for digital nomads and those involved in soft power activities. Aside from the 500k of liquid funds required in an account, the rest doesn’t really matter. The DTV is still new and unpredictable. You can already see things getting stricter over time (demanding in-country extensions, no bank account, etc.). The officials who pushed for it in the government have already been replaced.

Anonymous participant 270 Anutin is on record as saying he wants all visas reviewed. He also said he wants a single body defining visa types and not the few there is now ie Immigration, MFA and BOI
